In theory it works but I think when flying it would be a major hindrance. Take a stall turn as the perfect example of using 0 pitch, you pull up and center the stick, the wind then blows the model away or back at you. If you mark center you will be less inclined to correct with pitch or rudder as you have got the stick perfect in your mind and as far as your brain is concerned it should be perfect but its not and the maneuver would go tits up.

After a while you just get to know how much pitch is needed and when to add it to give you the desired effect.

As to stick feel mine has a very soft ratchet action but it makes little difference to me how the stick is set.

That's what I guessed. I was on the sim trying to get flips tighter, by ensuring when the heli was in the nose straight up/tail straight down position, ie halfway through the flip, that I had moved the collective to mid stick so I had no pitch at all so the heli would not drift at all and then trying to feed in negative pitch as the heli continued to inverted, if that makes sense.

Bad idea IMO, the best bet is learn to fly as it is, no spring, there's a reason no one uses a spring on that channel, and it's because it would be very bad if your fingers/thumb slipped.....
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Cruddbucket on YouTube (CRUDDBUCKET - YouTube) has modded his Futaba 8FG to spring the collective to centre.

He's a pretty good pilot too with a nice collection of helis, including a Banshee.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

            Another tack...

With modern radios, you have an awful lot of versatility wth pitch curves. etc - and unlike stick springs, these are easilly switched around while in flight.

You could have a curve with a zero flat spot around the middle, to make it easier to hit.

BTW, quite a number of very good pilots are complete luddites (cool - it obviously works for them) - don't let the fact that "no-one's tried it" put you off ideas.

2 pilots flew at Zone this year with sprung throttle sticks.
