  • EF Sabre EP Helicopter

Does anybody know if this is a good starter heli. I have had 2 MASH Rescue choppers from the same makers and have had no end of problems with them. The first one burnt out after 6 days, and the newest one has just broke its main gears!!! I am a newbie to the rc heli world and want a decent beginner model below £100 that I can use outside to start the process of learning to fly them. Please, any advice/help is useful and will be taken in, as like I have said I am a newbie that wants to learn!!!!

Haha, should have known someone would come out with that. My budget never seems to be the right one!!!! Ok, so where do I start to learn the basics??? Have you any recommendations or advice??? I want to learn the basics........taking off, hovering and most of all, keeping it stable in that hover!!!! Would the EF Sabre EP Helicopter be a starting point to the above, and rather than it being a good outdoor heli, can it at least be used oustide to some extent. Please, like I said, recommendations, help and advice is needed, and wanted!!! I know you must get bored of this all the time and are thinking, "why doesnt this fool go to a flying club etc" but I am moving to Germany with the Army in the next few days so want to get prepared with something to do to keep me occupied. Thanks though for the previous advice

ok mate so really you know what were going to say but you want us to say it!!
a blade cx2 about£115 is the best your gonna get for instant fun, but only good for outdoors in very calm conditions.
£150 will get you a twister storm perfect for outdoors but then you will need radio gear...more£££££s
£269 will get you a blade 400 as above but with a radio rtf
£350+ will get you a trex or mini titan the quality is going up now!! but again you'll need radio!

£100 will get you walkera/century... heart ache!! you asked for advice

yes the cx2 especially. its a contra rotating heli.
the others are collective pitch, a bit more of a hand full .

the sabre you pointed out is called fixed pitch it relies on motor speed to keep it hovering. it will be up,n,down like a whores knickers!!!

there are cheaper alternatives but you pays yer money you take yer choice!

            twister medivac
            protech helixxx
            lamav4
all contra's fly like the cx2 but the radio is nowhere near as good!

            mini pred
            honey bee king
            belt cp
fly like the collectives but again not as good

it really is a matter of get the best you can afford

Thanx for the advice. So what am I looking for in terms of skills to progress on from these beginner helis, is it a case of once you have mastered the art of hovering then you can progress onto the more expensive, and harder to control models???

not just hovering. you need to be able to comfatably hover with the heli facing in any direction. then start to move it about into figure 8s etc. the blade cx2 is perfect for this because its so stable. if you have got it setup right it will nearly hover on its own, and can help to get you out of trouble.
once you move up to the harder stuff if you make a mistake it bites you in the ass!(wallet)

guess it would!! The wife is already complaining that its turning into an expensive hobby!!! But hey nevermind!!! I think I will look at the blade cx2 but am looking really to be outside flying, this could take some time but I think I'lkl get there. The only problem I have is that its a lot of cash just to sit in your front room and fly around!!! There is little to no enjoyment in that. What I want is the ability to take a heli away from the wife and kids and learn without the added distractions.

You are true. I am still contemplating fixing the MASH heli. Its pretty much the same as the twister medivac. I think my problem is where I am trying to fly it and also my beginner status!!! I will go back to the shop I got it from and see if they can help as I am unaware of local groups and also my time in the UK is limited. The guy I brought it from seems pretty knowledgeable. From what I can make out he flys them himself and he may be able to fine tune it for me, the only problem with that is then I am relying on other people to do the stuff for me!!! Well, thanx again for the advice. No doubt you will give me many more!!
