  • raptor 50 vibration

Hi everyone i wonder if anyone can help me? i'm new to this heli stuff and had been running my raptor on 10% for a while then I was every few seconds getting a drop in the engine and a tail twitch! yesterday i put it into idle up 1 then it started to do the crazy chicken slightly then i put it into idle up 2 and it was really bad1 so i obviously took it out pretty fast! has anyone got any ideas why the higher head speed is making it vibrate so badly??? PLEASE can you advise me on how to get my smelly nitro old raptor back into top notch again?? Also if every one could send me thanks or what ever so i can flog stuff on here that would be grand!! Thanks a lot Si.

the fuel is your problem, not enough nitro content, and its back firing. Also sounds like the tuning is out

Vibration is something bent or out of balance, without the heli infront of me or pics or videos, have no idea what it is

And you'll have to start posting some useful content if you wanna sell stuff. Your a long way from being able to sell yet matey!

i will assume that the rappy is fitted with an os motor
and it will run on 10% fuel ok
it sounds like you need to give the heli a good check over
with the vibration you need to check all the shafts are straight and not bent
the main and tail blades are balanced and the flybar and paddles are equaly spaced
recheck the set up of the pitch/throttle curves

with the engine make sure all the fuel lines are good
replace the glow plug with good fuel (ie not from an open bottle that has been stored for a long time)
      and retune the engine

As a friend of simon (kwenim) ive been trying to solve his fault. Its an old raptor v2.. Ive had it all to bits and can confirm the shafts n paddles are perfect. Aswell as his throttle/pitch curves.

As its quite old im wondering if its the bearings that need changing, but saying that it looks more of a aggressive vibration then notchy bearings???

Yeah, his belt tension seems fine. It gives a little tail kick every couple of secs, but ive checked the teeth on the belt and that looks great to. Im not 100percent sure but think hes using just a thunder tiger 50 and maybe asking for to much power for a standard engine

the tail kicking is more than likely a missfire. Like has been said they will run on less nitro, but they run best on 30% and an OS8 plug. Sounds like it just wants tuning. The vibration could also be the tune of the engine.

Do the bearings feel rough when you turn them with your finger?? if so theyre goosed

+1 on this, I would take a close look at the engine sounds like a misfire, it will run on 10% but much easier to tune on 20 or 30. Suggest to strip the engine check bearings and piston/liner put n a new OS 8 plug and try it on 20% fuel.
You could post a quick video showing tail kick and we could help further?

we ended up having a quick look inside his engine to see that its been running way to lean, the bearing looked terrible. instead of mucking on and replacing the parts, hes gone and bought a TT redline 56 to replace it, hopefully this will cure his vibes and give him bag of more power.

                    fingers crossed!

We found out that the problem was the thin spacer between the engine and fan was pushing the clutch to far up into the bell scrapping the top. Looks miles better now

                        Good news
FYI - I had this recently on my OS 46 at the beginning of a flight - slight adjustment on the H/S needle sorted it out. I also find my belt slackens off quite regularly, so am going to put a jubilee clip around the boom to try and stop it slipping as much.

Why not take out the boom & put 2 wraps of insulation tape stretched tight around the boom, used to have the same prob with my Raptor but this sorted it,

I used to have problems with belts slackening on all my raptors and found by sanding the paint off the boom where it goes into the mount in the main frame stops it sliding in in flight and i run my 30 and 50 0n optifuel 20 slv and the 90 on optifuel 30 and they run fine
