Well done on a well run comp Rob, amazing skills to fly in such conditions, especially on sunday, would have liked to get a bit of time to watch but was a bit busy dealing with blown over portaloos!! We should be able to tweak the flight line, as you suggested in the hangar, for next year.

    Cheers

Maybe I'm wrong but Something about Duncan i've noticed since last year is he seems to be really enjoying his flying so much more. Ref the big Grin.

Kudos to all the lads flying in the breeze, makes me feel right at home..LOl. Need to drop the temperature by about 20 deg for me to feel comfortable though.

Well done to Pete..youve been flying ace this season. Sorry I couldn't make it for this one. see you all at the Champs

Actually Rob legally a public display is totally different from a competition. We can fly hang gliders in front of spectators as long as it is a competition. If its a display we have to jump through so many CAA hoops that only one pilot in the UK ever held the right licence (so she scould fly at air displays for her sponsor).
I wondered if the windspeed limit was relevant to the nationals it being a comp rather than a display.
Personally I don't think a numbers limit is relevant as it depends on the pilot the aircraft the turbulance and which way its blowing. you have to just assess the day and decide.
Wind blowing toward any spectators is obviously more of an issue!
If I had stuck to the 25 knot limit I'd only fly half the time I do up on our hills

If you can keep him awake that is, not known to surface much before midday, and if he does he spends most of the afternoon in the car asleep. Bless him. Agree with the flying though, you want to see the 700E in his hands, if he flies it at the Champs, look out.

Not a problem Dave, it's what we are there for!! Think the heli guys should have a whip round and get you a less silly hat though.

Well done on your success too!!

The FAI do define wind-speed limits for holding a competition. I forget the exact figures off the top of my head as they are given in m/s, but they correspond roughly to 28 mph down the flightline, with a maximum cross-wind component of about 21mph. The maximum has to be exceeded for 1 minute continuously before the flight is abandoned! (So gusts don't count!!!)

The cross wind component was added after the World Champs in Spain a couple of years back, when the cross-wind was considered by most pilots present to be downright dangerous!

I believe that on Sunday, when the winds were at their highest, the two heli flightlines were the last to shut down! Even control line stopped before we did!

I have to confess that along with all the other scale pilots, I elected not to fly on Sunday! Large, heavy scale models are not designed to cope with such conditions. I also have to confess to abandoning two rounds on Saturday in the Sportsmans event when I felt I was flying well outside my "comfort zone". I felt a bit better when the F3C boys did the same on Sunday.....!

I shot one of Mark's rounds of the fly-off schedule on Monday. However, its in HiDef, so I'll have to downconvert it before I can post it. That will probably be a couple of days due to long shifts at work here......!

Warm!!! Why do you need a warm hat?? It was the middle of summer, no really, it was!!!

Typically Tuesday morning 6am when I woke up to continue and finish the clean up it was bright sunshine, no clouds at all and hardly a breath of wind, stayed that way all day too
