  • yikes... F3C hovering

    a random thought:
I don't like F3C at all, but go to the competitions anyway. Generally, my weekends are too precious to waste them on hovering, and so is the fuel money.

Strangely, I found the hovering in yesterday's event much less "annoying" than earlier. I think it takes a while to develop a critical eye towards your own flying, this is a much bigger challenge than it seems.

Very Very difficult to do what they do as you cannot "hide" small errors in a continuous flowing flight. Some F3C pilots can do 3D well , but I suspect the opposite is more of a challenge

OH yes...F3C is not as easy as it looks. I dabble a little with the clubman schedule (once a year with no practice...LOL) and it does give you a little taste of humble pie on tidy hovering and Heli Setup.

The upstairs stuff presents less of a problem but diving straight in using a 3D setup is fun.
Machinery plays a big part as does its setup BUT you still need to burn fuel too. The thing that annoys me most is the distance flown out each side as its a model flying site looser if ever there was one.
High RPM, High in the sky, going a long long way out. Its worth bearing in mind that the noise footprint is huge in comparision to 3D flying and is on par with plank flying in case you have any possible sound issues with neighbours.

The F3C guys are very receptive to having folks come along to there events so if there in your area give it a whirl.

Its exactly the precision that it requires that intrigues me. I like the fact that there's is an actual level of competition involved, if i diddnt do this then i'd do F3A for the same reason.

3D i have no doubt in saying its highly skilled but as to its incarnation as F3N then i remain a little pesimistic i'm afraid.

I would of thought an additional schedule incompassing certain 3D moves under the current F3C's schedule would of been a better move.

Just an opinion though so dont shoot me

I love watching F3C hovering stuff. I like watching it more than trying to do it

When I was practicing for the A test I really only did the minimal hovering practice but I'd like to be much better.

I found hovering directly over a marker quite difficult and doing something at a distance. I have a tendency to let the heli move back slightly towards me when hovering out to the sides and it's either a tendency to keep it closer or a difficulty judging when it's over the marker, in either case it's something I need to work on.

At the Box Hill club we have plenty of space and no noise issues so practising any of that is not a problem but it's a bit more difficult at other places.

Mutlley, as far as I am aware F3C and F3N remain seperate disciplines. This year at Barkston Heath will see both being flown as well as Sportsman.

don't put too much hope into F3N. Our local judges made it clear this weekend that F3N is not 3D and what they expect to see was described much more like F3C.
At least there is no hovering involved, unless you chose set maneuvre #1.
