    I can't make it

I am rubbish at most things, but knowing I was going to enter grassroots, I spent a lot of time practicing a move I really wanted to nail for a long time - piro circuits. Now I'm told I'm too good to enter lol.
There are a few people I consider to be far better flyers than me that are entering - there are even people entering that have done grassroots and other, higher level comps, but hey ho - I guess this is just what happens sometimes. Shame because my limits are around confidence in front of others - something that I won't get to work on now.

I had a really good time over the 'rained out' attempt earlier - and met some great people. Have a good one guys

Anyways, I have decided to spend next week in the French Alps to console myself

Good luck to all of you!

    Gareth

      Hi

I pulled myself out of the comp. I have been doing a lot of sim work since, and at the time it was 'borderline' so I think it only fair that I do not enter.

In your original post you made it seem as though you have been kicked out of the competition and have been told you're too good. No one has told you that so obviously the judges (James etc) still think you're good enough to enter.

Thanks Gareth for your clarification, and is a shame, but you are a superb pilot, the typical dont realise how good you are issue, that alot of pilots suffer from. Air comp for you i think
            Thanks

              Hi

Well, there are two ways to view this I guess. Selecting criteria for a 'grass roots' competition is always going to be very difficult. There are, from what I have seen, a great deal of different skills / attitudes. Last summer I went to watch grassroots, and was blown away by how good the top entrants were. I did not enter, and at the time I was glad that I did not enter - I felt I was way off the mark with respect to skills. I did however really want to take part and as such worked really hard to take my skills up a small notch. Now I am at a stage that I feel sort of ready to enter, and many around me have said that I should not. James did raise concerns as well (as did others) but after taking the time to chat with judges on my behalf (thank for that) it was decided that I may enter, but if the judges deemed that I was not of the right level then I would be asked not to continue.
Fair enough! So I have reflected on this and decided to withdraw. I am sorry if I did not explain correctly and implied that I had been kicked out. This is not the case. Rather a few whispers in my ear has made me realise that if I did enter, it may be seen as being unfair to others.
I do really feel gutted because the irony is that I pushed myself to be eligible to enter and now I seem to have exceeded that level lol - sod's law eh! I still think my flying is poor - specially accuracy and I also think that some other entrants are much more skilled - but that is my opinion of their flying, not a reflection of fairness.

At the end of the day its about having a laugh and a bit of fun!

FYI if any of you are interested here is a video I took this eve on the sim, all 1min 30sec or so, with a crash at the end - I get the feeling that the piro moves, as messy as they are, would not be accepted as a suitable grassroots level - you tell me

In any event, I am not entering - have a great one and I look forwards to the videos / posts.

Nice flying there Gareth your inverted piro circuit is looking well good
Unfortunately that's the cut off for grassroots level & if you can perform that one move your deemed too good. I'd be happy to be to good mate
It doesn't mean your able to do a passable double aileron roll or a tick tock without loosing altitude or that you'd win but I guess the line has to be drawn somewhere.

PULLING OUT but still supporting :-)

Ok here goes, I must say that there have been quite a few "comments" some negative , on FB and forums about me being past the cut off point for Grass Roots ..........
I have decided of my own accord to withdraw from the event but would ask that I be allowed to fly but my scores be excluded from the results .
All the best to my fellow competitors and I will as usual be there to support and help in any way I can .

As James has said if your flying anyway, just let the judges make the decision.

It's EXACTLY what I've decided to do, because at least then you know the level to which your flying, as for comments, you will always get negative comments and you can either live by them or ignore them.

So Rachel fly well and have a good time!
                            All the best
                            Tony.

Right lets put a lid on this right here! When we anounced the grassroots competition and names started rolling in we at SWRCH had a MASSIVE! Behind the scenes discussion, the outcome of which was the judges will decide who is at what level, nobody else! So can i ask that all the guys that are expressing opinions on peoples abilities keep them to yourselves.( I'm not a judge and even I was told my opinion didn't count!) So if I can keep it zipped please do the same. This negativity helps no one, especially the pilots entering, they have enough to deal with.
