  • Do I get awarded marks for 'flare' when I start up my nitro in idle up?.... Its got a fantastic smoke display, and very colourful language.

Ive done it so many times now, im a natural....

My latest technique involves having the Tx about 3 inches too far away from me, so that I have to do a kind of shuffle with smoking helicopter towards it. I think this particular move adds a dash of class and panache that you dont normally see with such a move.

I finish it off with 'Thats probably about right to bed the clutch in'

        It really is a masterpiece.

              • For all those competing, I asked Matt Lodge for some hints and tips in terms of practicing. Given that I entered to push myself rather than win (ha ha ha). I thought I would share this with you all, as he suggested it might be helpful.

                Hi Mate,

Of course it's not a problem you asking

Ok, as a judge there are certain elements which will impress us the most.

First is the general control of the manoeuvre. If it looks like you're in control of your model and 'you meant to do it' thats easy to spot. Likewise if you're out of control, it's equally as easy to spot!

Second is centring. A loop for instance....if you draw a circle and split it down the middle, half should be to your left and the other half to the right......centring is a big thing and you will be marked down if you're not on it

Third is the speed of your model. If your too fast and rush the move we will see that the speed of the model has carried you through it, rather than you flying the machine through the manoeuvre.

Last is height control. It's an easy one this. Watch your height !! If you do a circuit move for instance make sure that the model maintains the same height all the way through. You will improve your point score for following this

So, back to your original question.

The Loop:- Make sure the entry and exit points are the same height, your speed is good and centring is on

The roll:- Make sure the height is constant. Centring wise, when you are half way through the roll be at the centre point !! Maintain a good speed

45 degree descent:- Do exactly what it says on the tin. Fly a 45 degree descent and bring the model to a hover in front of you....not off to one side

Double stall turn:- Consider this move as a 'U' shape when flown but obviously with an extended bottom section. Again speed, height control and centring is important here. The most common mistakes made with this move is not having your heli vertical either side on the stall turn and also when on the stall part of the turn NOT compensating for any wind that is about !!!!

3 stationary flips:- Again height, centring and general speed on the move. It's a hard one to do this as most people drift when doing it !!

                Hope this help James.

If you want to reproduce this PM on the main forum please feel free to do so What I have discribed above is guidance notes for general competition judging.

Looking forward to seeing you at the competition.

                Have a great Christmas

                Cheers

                Matt
