Not wanting to seem funny here but how can Rachael enter a grassroots competition when she has entered a intermediates and other comps?

Is this fair on the others?

I'm just trying to see the logic here and honestly not wanting to be funny.

Simple realy Ben there's a set ability before your deemed to good for grass roots. I've heard mentioned its pirouetting inverted circuits but don't quote me on that. Rachael's flying hasn't met this criteria so she's a worthy participant.

Thanks for that Martin but imho that makes no sense. Some just practice and practice one move and may not be any good at others. I have never seen but then I not really looked a list of moves that deems you good enough or too good to enter a grass roots? If the move is indeed piro invert circuits I would say your top level???

Its only I was just looking at the entry list again and see her name and thought she is way better than a grass roots comp now imo.

Martin is spot on, there is a level that is been set as a the max ability for grassroots, all pilots entered are below that requirement level, there was one that was iffy and he has pulled out on his own, it is hard to call for some, and on the day if they do start flying complicated piro manovers controlled the judges then have to decide if they are to advanced.
Yes Rachel has entered champs at an inters level, but if you look at her set manovers she did they were grassroots level, and also her freestyle also scored at a grassroots level, again there is a cross over area that low level champs is the same as higher level grassroots, same as there is for inters to champs level, and good on anyone that gives it a go at inters level, takes guts to give it a go, all other comps Rachel has entered has been grassroots level, and you can enter as many times as you like, the only thing that restricts it is ability

Is there a list or is it just a spoken list you refer too? But then say a pilot is very good but is very nervous at entering comps, I thought the GR comps were also for this. So if a pilot can do all these moves what happens there. I just going by posts I recall seeing? about other grassroots comps etc

Nerves cant be taken into account, if there are videos out showing them flying complex moves, then they will be judged to good.
As with all comps though and groupings, this has many many times been discused of where a pilot should be placed, the mentioned move by Martin, is what the grassroots organiser has desided shows a level of flying that is above GR level, and that is what we have to go with.
The grassroots comp, is for a set level of pilot, right from a sports level right up to a 3d pilot, again many people have entered grassroots level events more than once, there are alot, again as long as there level does not go over the limit, there aint an issue.
As for complex piro manovers being a very advanced level, i would say most inters level pilots can do complex piro manovers, the experts can reverse them

Sorry guys, I had to pull out. My work load has been off the scale the last 2 months, and I have had time to only fly twice since the end of September. I am working 7 days a week till Dec 21st, just to get all the work done for Xmas. This leaves me with a few days free around Xmas, and to be honest, my 2 little girls are far more important to me, than going to the field to practise flying.

I hope to come over on the day to cheer you all on, best of luck guys, Rob.

Hi Ben , and everyone , I thought I had better answer this ...........

I did enter the 3D champs , but only to make the numbers up as ALL events this year have been very poorly attended :-(
Yes I did finish 10th in inters but this was due to my flight to music (6th) bumping me up from almost last (music is my thing , my passion, sets just leave me cold !)

I did enter Air in the "Sports Class" and 2nd place was my best ever result. "sports" is the baby class.

I enter everything I can just to boost the entrys and promote women pilots to compeate as there are so few , to do this I have to stick my neck out , swallow my fear and get out there , If you had seen me throwing up and sobbing behind the tents at the Champs you may understand just how hard it is for me.

Now as regards my flying , on a good day at my club I am awesome (modest too) I tend to think I have a good control of the model in most orientations but as I am old (over 40 Ahem) I find learning new stuff so hard so piro flips are not my thing !!!! In fact I can do an upright piro circuit but Inverted ,...... no way ! lol

Should I enter ?????????????? I, James, and the judges and others did concider this , at length , and to be honest the top pilots of any class are usually way better than the others , but I really don't think I am that good.
Also think about the pressure , now everyone expects me to do well , I dont do pressure , I fall to bits , so things will by no means be a whitewash in my favor , in fact quite the opposite !!!! I expect to crash or come midway certainly not top 3 ,as I said I HATE sets .

I really am going to see what I am like on the day , I will know if I am way better than the rest (year right pmsl) and if i am then I will pull my own entry, the judges wont need to ask .

I hope this has helped explain my feelings and hopefully the organisers have explained their reasons to let me participate.
