Well its never good to arrive and look stupid. I usually succeed in that though...Originally posted by heathy View PostI haven't even begun to think of sets yet! Guess I'd better get a wriggle on as it sounds like you boyz are taking it seriously.
I looked at the set list and was pleasantly surprised to see how far down the list I can go, I thought I would be limited to the 5 easiest, but im averaging about half way down.
The issue for me will be however, how far do I want to push myself on the day, and what can I do well, rather than just do and have a heli at the end of it.....
I suspect the rules of golf apply here.... play a percentage game and you come out on top... go for the shot to the green over the trees, lake and bunkers, and well, you know how that ends.Logo 600 3D --- Vortex Vx1n

Really in the sets you should push yourself to the best you can, but obviously dont go to mad that you get them wrong, thats another reason we dont ask for your sets untill the day, to give you all chance to practise and change if you are struggling or push further.
On a note about this, i may ask for your set manovers a day or 2 before the event so i can do the forms before the event to save some time in the morningJames

So if I pick an auto as one set piece and all my other sets are above I start with a landing?Originally posted by moonmanflyer View PostHad quite a few people asking questions about the sets round so going to try to explain as well as I can what is expected.
From the list of set manovers you have to pick 5, these will have to be flown in order as they appear in the list, just in case we have a sound system failure the judges will still know what is to be flown.
The round is max 6 mins long, so you need to have completed all your moves by then, anything over will not be scored and we will ask you to land.
Each manover has to be flown once, with your caller calling the start and finish to each one, this is when your score for that move will be done, anything either side of those calls will be ignored, if your caller calls start and then you make a mistake, there is nothing you can do, if your caller has not called start then you can reposn and try again.
any flying in between manovers should only be to reposn your model for the next move, but of you want a little buzz around before each then fair enough, just be very aware of your time limit.
Dont panic if you mess one up, just stay calm, and don't rush to the next one.
If you fly behind yourself over the safety line on any manover that one will be zero'd for that manover, unlike the freestyle where your whole round will be zero'd.
After you have finish all your sets, come in and land as soon as possible so the next pilot can fly, no show boating, leave that for freestyle.
I was asked about could you fly a practise run of each manover before calling it on a second pass, in theory yes you could but it could cause confusion with judging if they mistake a practise as your real run and also again remember you have a time constraint.
I have also been asked about which direction to do the moves, this is completely up to you, if an manover specifies it is to be flown from side to the other, you can choose direction, obviously wind can make a difference how easy one can be over the other but that is up to you.
In all the flying on the day the judges decision will be final, no arguments, we will have a line judge and if he flags you went over the safety line it will be counted as a zero.
Hopefully I have helped a bit, but one other thing you could do is go search 2010 grassroots set manovers on you tube and there you will see how different people flew there round

Yes joe, though it sounds silly, it is just a way to prevent problems and is how previous grassroots has been done where mic systems are unavaliable and even though we do have sound, if we have problems like rain showers we might not be able to use itOriginally posted by JoeBailey View PostSo if I pick an auto as one set piece and all my other sets are above I start with a landing?James
