I don't mind flying (I always bring a heli or 2 where ever I go, whether I get to fly them is a different matter), I got my B but if I ain't up to standards (which I have no way of knowing as I fly in a plane club where there are no other 3D pilots) then as you guys say it would not be right for me to be there.

It is like a lot of things I do, I don't mind giving it a go and if I like it I will pursue it. But I don't want to be some where I should not be.

If you fly, then you are where you should be. Nowhere does it say you have to be competitive, the point is to get some advice on your flying. No matter what level you are at I'm sure you would still get some good advice.

So thats the thinking of competing part out the window
Before you write it off mate, do what I tend to do and check out other flyers.
Get a Masters DVD or two and watch the skill levels of Sportsmans class (download them from the fly3dx.com website too). Also the Clubmans 2006 DVD.
Bear in mind that there will be two reference comps for you to see skill levels at this year, ahead of the 3D Championship on 29 and 30 September (shameless plug )

I would rule nothing out at this point in time.
          Cheers,

                    Hi,

To answer the points raised by this thread, the Box Hill 3D Try-Out day is ABSOLUTELY NOT targeted at elite pilots. Far from it - the aim is to encourage people at entry level, especially those who have not entered a competition yet so I really hope that anyone thinking of entering a competition in the future will consider coming along and participating in this training day. (Please note that the day is also an opportunity for people thinking of becoming 3DX judges to be assessed.)

To encourage new pilots the event is FREE but we are asking anyone who doesn't want to fly to please respect the spirit of the day by not coming and in so doing allow the pilots their ONE CHANCE to practise together away from the pubic gaze. There are plenty of chances to watch pilots fly in public - Charmouth is coming up very soon.

Nutz, please do come along and fly. If you haven't got a specific routine or set manoeuvres sorted out then why not just do a 3 minute freestyle routine as per Clubman 3DX competition?

                    Regards,
                    Nigel

Another great way of flying with someone else and picking up hints and tips would be via the newly released multiplayer versions of simulators such as Phoenix.

This way you get an introduction to, and some practice in a new move on a simulator, which you can then work on before trying it at the field

Oh and as Nigel says, go to boxhill have a flight and let all the other pilots and by the sounds of it trainee judges give you lots of great advice

                      Cheers,
                      Pete.

Thanks for the response Nigel, I am still in two minds at the moment but you may have added the weight needed to get me to go. At least that way you guys can tell me how bad I am and give me some advice.

                        Thanks all.
