well folks, another year over with and the planning starts very soon all over again :-)
first of all i came home to find my broadband is knackered (thanks virgin media) so i can't upload any scores etc as i'm using my iphone-they told me be back on tomorrow morning so i'll post them tomorrow if someone doesn't beat me to it.
this year was a tough year for all with the weather and a huge huge big up for every single pilot/helper for not only coming with a grim forecast but competing to a very high standard which was enjoyed by all i'm sure-thankyou again.
would also like to say thanks to all our sponsors for assisting us to grow by providing prizes for our pilots.
onto the rest of the team-delboy, al, stu, kerry-anne, barney, wolfy and ronnie-absolutely top class work folks.
people will be pleased to know every single flight was recorded (cheers al) so they will be out in due course and we shall ofcourse post when this happens.
3D Scotland will be remebered for a long time. Not only by the Pilots, but by the organisors to!..LOL
On Saturday pilots battled with strong wind and heavy gusts. Credit to all level of pilots taking on the first challenge! With a weather front rapidly approaching we rattled through the first round of Sets in short order and broke for an early lunch as rain set in. After the break and confronted with increasing rain and a strengththening wind we called an early end to proceedings. Its commendable to note that 3DS Pilots flew in conditions that had largely grounded the Public Airshow due to the wind being around the Max allowable windstrength.
During the afternoon the weather deteriorated further and it became obvious that the two 9 m x 3m Marque's and the Judges tent were taking a pounding. By late evening In abysimal conditions with poles bending, canvas tearing we were forced to dismantel what was left, and alas the Judges tent was destroyed.
Overnight we lost a couple of the Irish competitiors including our Inters leader after there tent had collapsed and were flooded out. With improved communication I think we could have averted this but they were gone before we realised. Sorry Guys.
Re-start Sunday. With the Judges in there improvised windbreak first flight was 9.30. The wind remained troublesome throughout providing a good test of pilot ability as it was variable in both strength and direction. The day slowly brightened allowing all remaining rounds to be completed. Finals were then flown. Raffle completed, prize giving, speeches and then Victory flights. The cameradery in 3D Heli flying never ceases to amaze me and a big thankyou to all our helpers, sponsers Aurorra, FastLads, Midlands, Optifuel..err SAA! just dont tell them...our little secret wink wink and offcourse the Pilots themselves whom without there time and commitment non of this would be possible.
A quick thanks to the 3DS organising team, Stuart, Paul, Barney and also the key helpers being Del and Al (video). It was a fantastic weekend and you should all be commended for the way the event was ran. I know you all didn't get home until late last night because of the 'tidy up', so it was a great effort on your part. The event gets bigger and bigger every year and I cant think of a flying competition that has a better scenery backdrop. I know you have big sponsors signed up for next year already so this is one competition well and truly on the map.
