  • T-Rex 450SE or T-Rex 500

Been thinking of buying my second heli. Have a CX2 and been practicing on phoenix for a couple of months. Can't decide between the 450SE or the 500. Find the 500 a lot easier to fly on the sim. Planning to just build the heli gradually to try to justify the cost. will probably be flying outside as don't know any suitable indoor spaces. Which heli should i buy ?

    I'd go for the 500.
You'll have less outdoor downtime due to wind with that one.
    Cheers,

T-rex 450 is smaller than the 500 and is less stable it's more twitchy and in the wind... going to be a little bit harder to handle.

T-rex 500 is larger than the 450 more stable and handles 10-15pmh winds rather well.

Bigger the machine easier they are to fly.....

find a local Club as well and go visit them because even a 450 or 500 needs to be flown in a decent size space away from people.

If outdoor flying is your thing go for the 500. Just the cost that is more.

For fear of being accused of snobbery....:P
I'll say Trex 500 but there are other larger sized electric helis out there that you may wish to consider.

There is the Mikado logo range of helis
Hirobo Lepton (um heap big expensive)
LA Heli are due to bring out a 500 sized machine (sniper i think)
              Compass Atom due out soon
Robbe's Eolo (bit smaller and out of date now)
The MSH 500 class heli has just come out
I think there is a knock of chinese clone of the Trex 500 MDX550 or something?
Theres the Quick range of helis
And probably more options on the way.

I'd be looking at several factors.
              1. Cost
              2. Availability of parts

I think the Trex 500 wins hands down on these factors plus it's extremely well supported on here, some might say it's a bit snobbish, I say if everyone has one it must be fairly good and I'm not exactly an align fan being a staunch 450 hater.
It'll handle the wind much better than a <s>blade 400</s> smaller cheaper heli and take you further with your flying if you wish to progress into 3D. If you decide you don't like larger outdoor 'proper' helis and want to stick to co-ax indoor helis you'll be able to sell the 500 on realatively easily due to it's popularity.

There both cracking machines but the Trex 500 flys so stable at least the Phoenix model does, as the 450 needs much more stick input.

Go for the 500 mate, I'll be taking this route later on in the year.

                Best of luck.

You are either brave or stupid if you let the wife know how much our little hobby costs

Mine thinks helis cost a couple of hundred and planks are alomost free and any crash only cost £5 or £6!

                          Lol

Well She knows its an expensive hobby and has told me that if it's what I want to do then thats fine, I'll just have to save up for the big outlays i.e a T-Rex 500, it's whether I have the willpower to wait for a 500 or when I have sufficient funds will end up buying a smaller cheaper heli ,a decision I might come to regret..........

and so the Saga continues... lol

you dont need will power if your set on the 500 and youve got £300 then you can afford the airframe once you have got that then the decision is made, your stuck with it

                            LOL
