  • Help with choosing a 450

Hi, been away from Heli's for a while. Still a newbie. Looking for a 450 so I can use outdoor, any recommendations? I have a nano cpx so learnt everything so far on fbl. What is the difference between fly barred and fbl in terms of performance or how they fly? Only down side is I haven't got a massive budget. Cheers.

Flybar uses mechanical stabilization. FBL uses electronic stabilization. Once you get used to it, much more accurate easier to fly. If you're new to FBL then I would recommend you a Blade 450X. Its all setup out of the box and just flies good without any setup required.

I recently did a lot of searching for a 450. I wanted something I virtually didn't care about and that was cheap to fix and easy to get bit for most places.

I completely agree with Mahbouni, the Blade 450X. I really wasn't sure about the plastic heli but OMG it flys sooo well and some parts are cheaper than the 130X!

      Cheers

Do you already have a Tx you can use?
my personal opinion is that you will learn a lot from building he Heli, and going through the setup.
If it were me, I would probably go for a Tarot 450 Pro, kitted out with decent electrics. For A FBL controller, the ZYX-S will probably do for now, but as you progress you may find the need to upgrade.

This will leave money for spares compared to buying the Align product. However, if you are not happy with a clone, the Align is spot on, just a bit more expensive.

You've got a nano CPX - so I assume you've got a Spektrum DX6i or better. I agree with everyone above - the 450X really is a solid 450 out of the box. Pre-built, ready to fly and comes with a really good flybarless unit (AR7200BX).

Flybarred helis are really on the wane now. Many manufacturers now produce flybarless only.

I would also consider a 130x. Its not a 450 but capable to fly outdoor as well. If you crash a 450 that does cost a 130x almost always fee if you fly over grass. I have a clone 450 what i like too. If you like to build get an align/clone 450 if not get a blade 450x. Both ways great fun.

Yeah I have a dx6i tx. Okay guys thanks for all the advice. They are what I was looking at anyway just don't fancy the price of align lol. So looks like a 450x then. Cheers. I use overlander 3S 2200 25C sport in my planes. Are these good enough for the 450's?

The new Thunder Tiger Mini Titan E325 Sport is a great 450 sized FBL heli for the price. It comes as a full combo (FBL controller, servos, motor, esc) for around £225 which to me seams like an absolute bargain. The Mini Titan flies really well and being plastic framed, I have found it to be a little more forgiving in the inevitable crashes than the equivalent Align 450. I have 2 Mini Titans (one FBL and one FB) both of which are great.

I use the same overlander in my 450. They should be fine in the blade 450x too.

Just put an ickle spanner in the works, I have found it hard to go from a Nano to a 450, the size difference seems huge.
Also I have been unable to fly the nano outside properly, Hovering and small circuits indoors are fine.
I have hovered the 450 outside but have a confidence issue due to the size.
To help I have just got a 130x as an in between and going to start using that outside and then start using the 450.

                    Disclaimer
Everyone is different but hopefully this will help me

                      Help with choosing a 450

Cheers Sjm. I was thinking of a 130x but I thought why not use that money towards a 450. I'm not worried about the size too much. As I am still at the hovering and circuit stage but wanted something bigger and more stable to use at the flying field with my planes.

I am using the overlander batts and have been for 2 years no probs at all in my trex 450 pro.

I also agree with Rushton mini Titan should be worth a look my sons cobra bodied version flies great and straight out of the box.

It seems like a good deal. As he is in London, not too far away from you, I would ask if you can go collect it and ask him to demo it flying for you.
