  • Silly question?

Guy's I very new to all this so sorry if this a stupid question..

Currently I have a couple of Banggood bought quads with their supplied TX's ( Can one talk about quads here?)

Anyway I want to get a Sim, Phoenix probably, and hence I need a new TX, now I fancy the new Aurora 9S but its not out yet, so I might buy a secondhand Spektrum to use with the Sim.

What I'm a little unclear on is what TX works with what 'coptor? For instance would either of them work with my WLtoys V929 or V959?

And if I were to buy a bigger quad ( i like the idea of flying quads outside, while I learn the art of flying a heli on the sim ) is it possible to swap transmitters between them? I'd assume there is a receiver I'd need to change?

    Cheers

Martin, Welcome to the forum. There is no such thing as a silly question - only silly answers (and you'll get your fair share of those believe me!)

First silly answer lol. Usually pre-packaged helis and quads that come with their own Tx are not suitable for migrating onto a 'normal' Tx. There may be a few exceptions and I am not familiar with the ones you mention but if they are cheap & cheerful then it would not be worth even trying.

For Phoenix you can usually get a s/h Spektrum DX6i from this forum after folks have traded up to 7s or 8s. Otherwise Futabas work well but need an adaptor lead.

Enjoy the hobby - enjoy the 'craic' on here too.
    Happy Landings.

If you split helis (and quads for that matter) into two (very rough) groupings ..

          1/. Toy helis/quads from general hobby/toy stores
2/. Hobby grade helis/quads from specialist RC stores.

Then it's quite simple. Group (1) usually come with their own proprietary TX. They cannot be used with other products.

Group (2) allows you to choose your own combination of TX and receiver unit technology. Once you choose a standard, you can use the one TX for all your models so long as they have compatible RX units. For example, a single Spektrum DX8 can control multiple helis/quads that have Spektrum RX units in them (eg. AR8000, AR7200BX, etc.)

Equally a single Futaba TX could control multiple helis/quads that have compatible Futaba RX units in them.

The reason a Futaba cannot control generally speaking, a Spektrum RX (or vice versa - despite both being on 2.4Ghz frequencies) is that the computerised radios talk different communication protocols (eg. DSMX, DSM2, FASST, FHSS, etc.)

PS. Your "banggood" quads are most like in Group (1) ...
