  • Repair advice needed.

    Hello all,

i was just practicing my limited manoeuvres this evening before my first trip to the club in the morning with my heli, and I sustained a small bit of damage by letting the tail hit the ground during a landing, which stripped one of cogs at the front end of the torque tube gears on my 450 pro, which was ok as I had spares however one of the screws that keeps the vertical tail fin in place has snapped off in the metal tail end unit. I have 2 questions:

    1. Is there a particular technique anyone has used to get the remainder of the screw out, in a similar situation.

    2. If I can't get the screw out does anyone know where I can buy just the metal tail end unit part number 45t009. Everywhere I have looked sells just the whole end of the torque tube for about £22 but I am only after 1 part of it. I did find it in the states for $6.99 but the delivery time was ridiculous, and I want to get back in the air ADAP.

    any advice is greatly appreciated,

thanks in advance for any responses.

    Cheers James.

Not sure mate, you might struggle there!

Is ANY of it sticking out? Why is it stuck in? thread lock?

In the past when ive had parts that the head snapped off coz there was too much threadlock on ive had good sucess with putting it in the oven at 150 degrees for a while (obviously remove any meltable!) and then trying to extract with pliers.

The heat makes the threadlock go liquid again and it comes out like its been lubed with butter!

If theres nothing showing out of it you may struggle. Potentially the above technique and then threading something in from the other side may work, but dont count on it too much. If you can get a reasonable grip on the screw to rotate it then it will come out in the oven, if not you may struggle.

If there is any of the screw sticking out you can us a dremel to cut a small wide slice in it then use a big flat head screw driver to unscrew it, maybe if its just inside you could still cut it without making too much mess of the tail unit as you will still be able to get the screw back in after.

      Hope this helps.

I've had this hapen and the only solution for my case was to cut a slot into the tail case and bolt from the other side and screw the screw all the way through.
As a way of saving money one option would be to buy a cheaper clone tail case and salvage all your align parts to graft onto the only bit you need

Hi mate and Thank you, that worked !! There was a tiny bit of the screw sticking out of the other end which wouldn't turn when I tried to do so with some small pliers, but after being in the oven, I got it out. Had to put it in a few times as I only could manage a few turns then it would cool and the thread lock was setting again, but a bit of perseverance and it paid off. Just saved £22 so many thanks again !!

          Cheers James.

Thanks for confirming that a method worked. I'm not sure if a heat gun or a soldering iron would have done the job.
