  • Century UK GL450

    Hey fellow addicts,

I have a GL450 which I crashed, it bent a lot of parts and stripped all the cheap servos it came fitted with.
I have replaced almost all the damaged parts and the servos.
My problem is when I try to power it up the rotor spins maybe one tooth on the main gear then stops and the model beeps.

Could I have fried some of the electronics?

Since then I have bought a second hand DX6i and would like to use this. Is it worth upgrading all the remaining electronics i.e new rx, gyro, esc, motor, and battery?

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks

    Ned

I ran a gl450 in the early days, after 2 weeks of trying to hover and mess around, I changed servos to hitec 65mg a align tail servo and changed the gyro to gp750 and radio to dx7 and transformed the model and made so much easier to fly, then changed motor and esc, because esc went up in smoke. Most parts are changeable to align

Yes, well worth it. Poor components make for a poor heli.

You'd need a RX too, Orange work well enough. Also sounds like either the ESC or motor is goosed, or the gear mesh is way too tight.

So, the beeping you're talking about, is this when you just connect the battery? It sounds like maybe it's going into programming mode which could be caused by the throttle not being all the way down when you connect the battery.

If memory serves I think I got my GL450 as a ready to fly version with a TX and I never tried to use the TX that came with it, I binded it to my DX7 instead. The motor and ESC on mine were fine, prob no need to change them if they still work. The servos that came with it were the really cheap Tower Pros and they were barely up to the job even for just very basic flying. I replaced them with the MG90s with metal gears, which is still a budget servo but a bit more robust.

The stock gyro is very marginal and a faster tail servo will help as well.

I think I have a Futaba GY401 around here you can have if I can find it.

I was using the Acerlab D12 MG as a tail servo on my GL and Trex 450 and that was a definite improvement but later proved to be not quite fast enough when I started doing some basic aerobatics.

I had replaced all the servos including the tail servo with hitec hs-65mg. Will they be fast enough for the tail?

Thanks Sheryl, that would be great, if its no problem.

I need to replace the old style RX, which one would you guys recommend. I have been looking at specktrum's rx's to go with my DX6i.

OK, I found it. The only annoying thing is that the face plate fell off it some time ago, so you'll need to look at a photo of one to see what the switches and pots are. I know it's something like DS (digital servo) on/off, reverse on/off, travel limit and delay.

Anyway, it works it just looks like a small version of a 1970's fil robot with the face skin removed.

PM me your address and I'll get it posted.
