  • Phoenix laptop issues

Hi chaps I've got this issue with phoenix, it only happens on two flying fields the Lakeside and Sandbar, however before my dell reinstall earlier I'd downloaded more scenes and a few of them done the same.

I've taken a few images to show you what happens, when I try and change the scene to say the sandbar this is what I get.

And there it sticks, until you change a screen, then I get this colour behind the black where it should only be black.

Then if I'm lucky and i manage to get onto the Sandbar for example this is what happens

The other fields play fine even of I do have the strange colours behind the Phoenix screen.

The Lappy is a Dell Inspiron 1520, also the bleeding Dell media wizard also makes some suprise appearances as well. but that's another thing.

The graphics is the Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

    DAC Type Internal

Adapter String Mobile Intel(R) GMA X3100

Its running on Vista Basic, with 1GB DDR2 RAM

    Phoenix is running V1.05c.

In Vista when you remove a program unlike XP, windows takes care of the removal as where in XP when you go into add/remove programs Phoenis self uninstalls its self.

Now earlier today I uninstall phoenix using the "Uninstall A Program" section in control panel and after a while all was deleted so I thought.

Bear in mind that before I deleted Phoenix I'd been flying the trex 500.

So after removing Phoenix I installed it back, only to find the trex 500 in the heli lists and of course I got the message that this machone cant run on the version the disk arrived in which was 4.soomething?

So I'd have thought that heli would have been deleted along with the program, I tried this another time and the same thing happened.

So I had to do a factory reset of the software as I thought have a fresh start, so after installing AOL and other programs I put the Phoenix disk in loaded it, then downloaded the updates and bang back to square one with these two playing scenes.

This doesn't happen on the desktop, so how I see it, Vista doesnt do a complete clean uninstall of Phoenix as fragments like the trex 500 was still there after a new instal, on my desktop as the new update made the screen jump around and not smooth like before that new update I uninstalled the program in Add/Remove Programs, then put it back on and all was fine.

However with my Dell Laptop and Vista this doesn't seem the case, I don't know if the Laptop has a fault as when you pick it up the CD draw makes the sound like you've just placed a disk in and its read it for a second, and before the Dell Factory reinstall it kept spitting on the Phoenix disc when I tried to instal it then after the third attempt it finally started to read it.

Plus just before the Factory instal the bloody draw wouldn't open at all, which now after the lappy has been reset to how it arrived from the box that now works OK.

Any ideas chaps, I'm pulling my hair out in frustration here, as I say only two fields crash when trying to open them, and with the ones that do manage to fly on I get those colourful lines in the background.

I have exactly the same prob on an HP Compaq NC6320 Laptop. Had this issue on all water sceneries since the last official build release of Phoenix. Emailed Real Time about the issue but they were unable to help.

I think its a driver/graphics card incompatibility to produce the water effects they have added. If i turn off water effects form the set up menu the problem disappears for water scenes.

The problem also exists when doing the training sessions, as soon a plank or heli passes the view from virtual standing point it stammers the graphics just like your screen shots.

Id love to see a fix.

By the way, i'm running the same onboard graphics card as you "Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family"

                  I'm sure its hardware/driver related.

Mine does exactly the same since I downloaded the latest version of the software.
My onboard graphics wont work the new ripples effect on the water and it crashes the same as yours.
All the other sites work fine, so I guess it`s because of what they have done with the water that is killing it.
I just fly on a different site.

As a last resort you could always try un-installing and re-installing, if you do this tho remember to remove the phoenix directory after un-installing and reboot the machine before commencing with the re-installing.

Cheers Fixxer I'll try that, BTW this was the reply I received from Phoenix late last night.

                          Hi Wayne

We are very sorry that you are having a rare problem with Phoenix.

We think that the problem you describe is due to your graphics-card or sound-card drivers being out of date.

Please can you try installing the latest drivers for your video and sound card from the manufacturer's website(s), and let us know if this fixes the problem you are having.

We would also recommend reinstalling from the CD-ROM, following the instructions below:

                          -uninstall Phoenix using add/remove programs

                          *IMPORTANT*

                          -delete your c:/program files/phoenixRC folder
                          -delete your My documents/PhoenixRC folder

                          *IMPORTANT*

                          -reinstall Phoenix from your CD-ROM

                          Best Regards

                          PhoenixRC Support

Give these guys credit there customer service is first rate, I've contacted DELL and all my drivers are all up to date, so I look at the problem like this.

I can usee all the scenes apart from two on the lappy right now, everything else works fine, Phoenix may possibly be sorting out a fix in a future update.

The PC plays them all with no hitches apart from the last update which made the graphic flow jumpy, so I stick with the 105b update and everythings Rosy.

I can still learn how to fly regardless of these two issues and in no way do they spoil my enjoyment while using them, do I want to buy a newer G/card for the PC, no! I'd rather put the money towards spare parts for my Trex, the computers are just a tool nothing more, flying and being part of the forum is a passion.

I think all in all this thread has been time well spent, we all have different PC's with chip sets and cards which all have there minor faults, I'm not alone with a few of my minor issues so on that part we have to except the program isn't flawless, but is still the best teaching platform out there along side Reflex.

Have you also tried disabling the water effects on the:-

                            System/System Settings Menu
                            Display (Tab)
Water Quality (At botton) = Disabled

Should stop it trying to render any water effects.

                            Good luck!

                              Thanks mate will do.

This is how it stands after todays tests.

To be certain I had a Dell Hardware technician go over the hardware within the 1520, and using the diagnostic software supplied, each area of the laptop passed with flying colours, this took about 40 minutes in all as the scanning software examining each part and then some.

So everything was fine with the Hardware.

Then I got passed to a software technician and he remotely linked to my Lappy, done tests on the software using tools his end and also using diagnostic software on my laptop, everything passed again with a clean bill of health, he even said how well managed I have my setup with unnecessary programs taken out of memory using third party software, and the general tidiness throughout.

He then checked my sound and graphic drivers, these are also up to date and the very latest on offer.

So I have a situation now which is thus, I can either run Phoenix as it downloaded from the disk, version 4.01 or something, and I can excess all the scenes with no issues at all, it works perfectly without a single split second dragging graphic.

I can run it as I have it now using the 1.05b update, and lose the two water scenes as they crash as before.

Or download the very latest update and risk the graphics dragging a little, but being able then to fly the trex 500 and join in with on line sessions.

I know now I'm not the only one with this issue, and I'm sure there's many throughout who also have problems with the latest updates.

I'll be sending this off the Phoenix, but after nearly a couple of hours on the phone so I knew my computer was up to scratch with Dell, the issues lie within the Phoenix software itself, and I do very much hope they provide a patch fix, so me and the rest of the users who have these problems can use the program in full.
