...neither am I. I can only report from my own experience:
I fly RC-helis since 13 months now and I have barely scratched the surface of heli 3D.
I got myself a planck (a small styrofoam delta-wing) and I am already through a big chunk of the 3D figures available for fixed wings.

      Hi Chris

Welcome to the forum, as Alex has already said this is a fun place with help available from all sides, you just have to ask. When Alex moved over to Helis we had no Clue ad stupidly purchased a heli that was hiding a whole bundle of problems. So buy carfully idealy from some one who can show you it flying, dot rush into it and if posible take a knowledgeable friend to see the heli.

Seting up the FBL Giro is not the easiest to beguin with, but there are many guys o here who are experts on setting up the various systems, just Ask Alex or Conner who is best ad they will point you in the wright direction.

There are some great events comming up this year, it will be great to meet up if you get to any of them.

The 550 is a great place to start, it has all the abilities of a 700, with the capability to turn down the systems at the start.

I know what you are saying Peter about buying second hand, have heard many similar stories. I made a similar mistake when I bought my first motorbike, I wrongly assumed that all bikers liked to look after their machines. took alot of work to get it up to a reasonable condition! To be honest I'd rather buy new and build it myself than go for some second hand stuff. That 550 advertised earlier has been recommended and a little birdy told me there may be another coming up for sale soon. The new price vs. second hand is not too expensive so is definitely an option.

I'm pretty much settled on the idea of a 550, should see me for a good while until I fancy something a little larger. And like it's been pointed out the batteries will be interchangeable between that and say a 700. I've downloaded manuals for beast x and the build of a 550 so will have a browse through to get a better understanding of how it all goes together and works. That way when I get a heli I'll have a rough idea of where to start and what questions to ask.

I'm very keen to get down to one of the events to have a look and get some info and tips. Will keep an eye out for dates and hopefully some tie in with my time off from work. I'm pretty much month on month off so I'm sure I'll find the time.

        Cheers
