  • Where am I going wrong :(

To cut a long story short im new to flying helis and now own three but can only fly one with ease which is my blade msr. Yesterday I took my blade nano cp for its maiden outdoor flight after learning all the orienations I need indoors and all I did was crash, crash and crash some more. It all goes wrong after initiating a turn and the heli just slides out of the turn and seems impossible to recover resulting in me hitting TH before impact. I dont own a sim so all my learning is purely real life stick time so any help would be appreciated.
Im using a dx6i with 60% +10 expo on elev & aile with rudder at stock settings, is this ok or do I need to change these settings in order to make progress?

You really need to get yourself a simulator, or else you have enough money that you can afford to crash every weekend?
    get Phoenix sim and practice
Goblin black nitro, Trex 700N, Vbar control 👍🏻

Describe this turn you're trying to do.

Are you trying to do a proper banked turn, or are you trying to hover it very slowly (walking pace or less)? What inputs are you giving to achieve this?

From what you've said so far, it sounds like you are attempting a banked turn, and starting the turn properly, but then failing to add back elevator to stop it dropping and opposite aileron to level it out as you finish the turn.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

Hi Eric, to get a sim would mean upgrading or getting a new pc as I only have a samsung q1 ultra micro pc which wont run programs like phoenix reliably. The reason I got the nano as a learning tool was because its light and able to survive moderate abuse. I also have a blade 400 but that wont be airnorne for a few months yet until im confident in my abilities.

Hi bigpops, Your right Im trying to do a left banked turn! The method im using is left cyclic first to bank the heli then rudder to follow it through. From what you've said the mistake im making is not adding enough back elevator during the turn.
When you say opposite aileron do I need to use that during the turn to control the bank angle or only after the turn to get back to level flight?

Hi Archer76 You definitely need a sim, If you get the Pheonix there is learning tutorial you can go through, But evan with a sim if you try and RUSH IT you crash, but on a sim it don't matter ??.

nano cpx outside with any kind of wind, will be very challenging for a beginner though.

                    A couple more Q's if I may.
What should my swash type be ? Mines set to 1servo90ยบ.
And what should my gyro setting be ? Mine is set as sw-gyro 0: 50.0% 1: 50.0%
                    Thanks

As you want to finish turning, you add opposite aileron (right for a left hand turn) to bring the heli back to level which will stop the turn. Obviously you come off the rudder too or you'll end up pirouetting across the sky.

To answer the questions above: Your swash type is correct, and your gyro gain is irrelevant for the nano CPX (and all the micro Blade helis as far as I know) as it's factory set on the heli itself.

That's what I was gonna say, the Nano is not easy to fly and can be very twitchy and get away from you. These kinds of tiny helis don't fly like something a bit bigger, they are a bit of a niche unto themselves.

A good sim would be very helpful in all aspects of heli flying and would also give you at least some vague idea how the bigger ones fly.

Your Swash is correct and the Gyro should either be INH or 50% (50% is basically the same but I prefer to set to INH)
