Help with battery checker

I am using this checker

I don't seem to get it to connect to my battery to even give a reading. The instructions are pretty useless. Can anyone help me. Cheers

Should connect it to the balance leads coming out of your battery (usually white connector with red/white/black wires) as in pic below, the black wire being the one that you connect to the -ve side as far as I can tell
