  • Phoenix V Aerofly

I (like many others,I believe) have taken up this hobby as a result of an unexpected Xmas toy. Rc aircraft had been in the back of my mind for quite some time, the toy, together with having retired, pushed me in the direction of helis.
Having read extensively on this forum and other areas I see the general consensus is that a decent sim is a must.
I have been offered an Aerofly system at a decent price but see little or no mention of it on this site whereas Phoenix is sort of raved over. The Aerofly is quite a bit more expensive than the Phoenix equivalent. Which should I go for and for what reasons?
Whilst browsing in a local model shop (with cards and cheque book left at home!!) the owner suggested that a dedicated sim TX was better as it was designed for long hours of use where the "flying ones" were designed for shorter periods of use. Once again any comments.

i have all the sims you can buy just now and i would rate AFPD as the best plane sim on the market and the worst heli one. phoenix is superb for helis and nearly as good for planes. unless it is a REALLY REALLY good buy i would get phoenix myself.

    cheers

For Heli's it has to be Phoenix ... I can't fault it ... plus ya can use ya own Tx and get comfy with it instead of using a diff Tx for sim and real world flight ...

Phoenix is so good I wouldn't even give a second thought about another sim on the market.

When I started to learn how to fly the 450 on Phoenix I found it a complete impossibility, now, after using the teaching guides I can tail in hover and do a little flying without hitting the deck.

            Buy Phoenix 100% assured mate.

lol model shops crack me up. what a load of BS. Trev's futaba 9c was 5 years old when it died with heavy amounts of real and sim useage. Wear is just something the sim manufacturers cooked up to get you to buy their cheap crap TX with their sim. my 9x has had 2 years of heavy use. If the gimbles wear new ones are only 30ukp.

Phoenix is the best for helis and for fixed wing its better in some areas and worse in others but phoenix are working on improving the physics all the time.

Shorter periods? crikey, when I go gliding my radios get 3 or 4 hours solid use - my average attention span on the SIM is about 10 minutes, though since I got Phoenix I normally manage 15

Thanks for all the info, Phoenix it is then. Next question follows on what Tx is recommended for beginner assuming at some point I would want to progress to a more advanced heli?

Go future proof with the Spektrum DX7 using 2.4Ghz

The only way forward when starting from scratch IMO..
