  • Lama V4 upgrade, metal parts.??

Hello, newbie to heli flying but having fun. Picoo z and gyrotor got be interested now onto lama v4 with eye on belt cp for future.

Has anyone else upgraded the lama v4 to the metal collet set , central holder and main shaft, down central holder and swashplate?

I was hoping it would improve the lama v4, but I think the upgrades have made it to heavy, and now heli will not have hover at all!

All it wanted to do was take a nose dive straight into the back lawn.

So I have put the original plastic ones back in.

Is this upgrade worth it? has anyone had any success at all with this upgrade? i.e upgrading to the esky metal parts?

    Any info appreciated

    thanks

    dave

Hi hoppy36, I have fitted the head upgrade to my Lama 4 at first it flew lig a pig, but then im no top flyer only just started, i read some where on this forum that the inner shaft caused probs like haveing no give for fly bar, so i removed that re-fitted the original and had another go, still flew like a pig, then i started to look at swash plate settup and noticed that it was miles out of level, i just kept adjusting the rods half turn at a time, eventually i got it steady again and it flew like it did when original was fitted, then i put the alloy inner shaft back on and retrimmed it, and it is spot on now, I can get around 15 mins flight time out of batt and hovers just fine, the one thing i have noticed is that if you have a ding on any of the rotor blades it will knock it out of balance with all the problems that creates, and when your learning you just dont want that factor thown into the mix as well, so i would suggest you check all your settings and balance your blades, have a look on forum there is loads of advice on here for seting them up.

I have the V3 which I believe is mechanically very similar. The only upgrade I have gone for so far is the alloy inner shaft that locks the stabilizer bar in place. I found it did increase stability.

        metal parts for lama

        thanks for input,

lama is flying ok now with original plastic parts, though it is annoying to keep fixing the bar back in place after a ding!

While its flying ok, Ill keep plastic parts in, not sure these metal upgrades are worth it, the only useful one seems to be shaft that locks the bar in place so may put that only back in!

        thanks for info!

Having fun, very tricky to fly outside even with the slightest wind!

        cheers

Update on alloy parts, one of the things i have noticed with the inner shaft and alloy top is while it locks fly bar in place it is easy to bend it when you have a crash, also when you maneuver fast it does have a tendency to whack the blades, another word of warning is the 4 screws that hold the rotor blades onto the frame's have a nasty tendency to work loose, as i found out last night when the two bottom blades went for there own flight. Luckily never done any damage. So i would suggest locktight on screws, at moment i have plastic lower rotor holder back on, personally i think the swash plate is the only thing that is worth changing on the upgrade that does make it that bit more responsive. As i said on earlier post i noticed no real lack of performance or less flying time, but as said the cracks are showing with them and well the jury is still out. If anything it will get you used to trimming the rotors up.

If the plastic flybar holder has got loose, you can tighten this up with a hairdryer (and some care...)

              That's good information.

I think it's interesting that the Blade CX2 comes with an alloy flybar holder as standard. Though I guess you can never tell whether they're going for 'bling appeal', or if they think it really makes a difference. Certainly seems to work well as a package, though.
