os37 problem

Hi, Just fitted a brand new os37. Started fine, cut out after approx 30 seconds. Tried to restart, but starter could not turn the engine over. Took the engine out removed glow plug turned the engine over by hand using the clutch. Put back into heli and started straight away, ran for approximately 30 minutes to help bed in piston. all was good. Stopped engine and waited until this evening to do some more running in. But the starter wont turn the engine over again and i cant turn it by hand. i will remove the plug again and see if i can turn by hand. It seems as if there is far to much compression. Has anyone got any ideas. I can take it back to the shop if i have to but would rather sort it myself if possible.

It could just be fuel locked?
Can you try this...
With the transmitter and heli switched on and everything working fine, do not attach a glow igniter, but open up the throttle fully, clip the fuel line shut and lean the helicopter over (approx 45°) to the exhaust side. Now try getting the engine to spin over using your starter.

If after a little cajoling, it begins to turn over, it will get steadily easier - close the throttle stick again and it should still turn over.

If it does this - it's possible that your engine is set too rich and it is fuel locking because of it.

It might not be this... but it's worth a shot to eliminate it.

when you finish running the engine, either clip the fuel line off, or remove it. 50 hypers seem to be a bitch for sucking fuel in as it cools and hydrolocking the engine, i imagine the 37 may suffer also. no big deal, just install a line clip on the fuel liune going in to the carb

Sounds like your flooding the engine when filling the tank, as has been suggested get a clip on the line just before the carb.

Thanks everyone, After eventually pumping out about 3-4 tablespoons of a thick oily substance and removing the engine and turning over by hand i eventually got it to run. I have now emptied the fuel tank and removed the fuel line to be safe. I pressume the oily stuff is normal. When running in should i start the engine at the factory setting of 2 turns out and adjust to 3 turns whilst it is running and then wind back in to 2 turns just before shutting down? or does it not matter to much. Sorry for the dopy q`s i`m new to this as you can probably tell.

start at the beggining, and as you lean it, leave it there for shut down and start up until you have leaned it to the point you are happy. no need to keep reseting it back to factory everytime

If it's from burnt engine fuel, then it's probably castor oil - or it;s synthetic equivalent depending on fuel type being used.
Yes, oily residue is normal, but excessive residue isn't - although in a flooded engine it probably is!

As Jamiem said, set the engine neeles rich (and leave them there) while running it in - then lean off until happy after that - ideally, you won't mess with the needle settings once they are about right, although atmospheric conditions usually mean you have to tune an engine by a click or three here and there as the air gets cooler and hotter.
