Sorry - it isn't the DX6i at all... my bad
It IS a Spektrum transmitter though - so thats a plus!
      Cheers,

The BCX2 Tx is fine with the BCX2 - certainly at my (beginner) level, and it's better than the E-Sky Txs.

I'd guess that it's going to work ok with Phoenix for models like the BCX2, but not for models that have features different to the BCX2. Ie if they are more than 4 channel; or if they require a different set-up to a BCX2. [?]

Would that mean that if you bought a BCX2 plus Phoenix, you couldn't simulate models on Phoenix with collective pitch (as they need 5 or more channels, and the Tx generates the two collective pitch & motor speed inputs from your stick input) ?

I don't think so - I think the package works just fine as sold.

bcx2 tx works just great on all models

you assign throttle and collective to the throttle stick. only sownside is you need to assign idle up and throttle hold to buttons on your pc keyboard.

Which kind of invites some further questions...

My understanding (?) of what goes on in the Tx is that you have 4 inputs from the 2*2 axis joysticks; depending on the Tx configuration these might be transmitted as 4 channels, or mixed/processed to some degree before being transimtted as 4 or more channels.

eg on a collective pitch model, the throttle stick might generate engine speed control on one channel, and collective pitch control on another channel.

Stop me now if I'm talking rubbish, but this being the case, is it the stick inputs that's being passed to Phoenix, or the transmitted channel data ?

they are mixed by phoenix scallybert. channel 1 and 6 =throttle and pitch one one.
elv airl rudder the other three.

i honestly dont know what phoenix reads does it matter??

I know its an irrelevant question really but does the phoenix cable send signals both ways or is it only able to take input from the TX not send signals bck to the TX???

                    Kind of...

I'm interested in how all this stuff works, and I want to pick you people's brains.

It's not just curiousity, but I think it helps to know how things work - especially when they go wrong.

Looking up CCPM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclic/...e_pitch_mixing & stuff on the DX6i http://www.spektrumrc.com/, it's obvious that there's a load of 'clever-stuff' (TM) happening in the Tx.

If you bypass the clever-stuff in the Tx when using a simulator, either the simulator has to simulate the clever-stuff in your Tx as well, or things won't work like the real model does. Neither of which seem right.

It's a bit like when (IIRC) you said a DX6i was nicer to control a BCX2 than the stock Tx. Why ? What does it give you ?

On a more practical level, I'm starting to think maybe I really ought to get Phoenix (I really do listen to what you say...), and it has a bearing on what sticks I use to drive it. [I might not have the BCX2 Tx where I would use Phoenix.]

I bought this, seemed like a good price.
