  • Blade 120 SR or Honey Bee V2

Hello everyone I have been searching for a forgiving RC helicopter for awhile now.

And I've narrowed my search down to the Blade 120 SR and Honey Bee V2.
My main reason of looking at the 120 SR is that I've heard good things about them and the Specktrum technology inside would enable me to use well their Tx and when I eventually get pheonix sim I can use the controller I get with the heli but by the time that happens I prob would of out grown it.

My other choice would be the Honey Bee V2 because its recommended by a Rc Heli warehouse in the nearest town to me ( Buzzflyer ) so if anything goes wrong I can quickly take it back to them although they are an online only shop. And the included sim is a bonus and I can easily find spares with this heli.

Most of the 'ideal' beginner heli's are indoors only but I do not have the space for an indoor heli so it has to be outdoors. I understand the 120 SR can be used outside in next to no wind. I have searched and searched for info on these 2 heli's and searched forums and reviews but I need a tailored opinion. I will be getting either one within a week or so. Any help would be amazing thanks

Hello Austin, I started with a 120SR great little Heli. It can be used outdoors but is very susceptible to wind! I am afraid I do not know about the Honey Bee.
I see you joined quite awhile ago? What have you been flying up till now?

good luck whatever you decide this is a great hobby.

Re: Blade 120 SR or Honey Bee V2

          Hi Austin,

I have had both and wish I had followed others advice and avoided honey bee, it was total rubbish, really poor quality. I also had a blade 120 sr and it was a really good starter fixed pitch heli. I agree with a post above about the 130x but I don't know your current skill level (I'm only a beginner still myself) I haven't got a 130x but I have got a blade nano cpx and it's excellent. Out of the 2 I would say the 120. Although I wish I had seen this when I first started, it's a fantastic heli for the price and almost indestructible !

Liam B. - The problem is i do not have indoor room to fly anything about and also fragile stuff about that i do not want broken , Although i have enough space to do a very short hop or two. Sheldrake - mainly those cheap co-axis that me and my dad buy on occasion to see whos lasts the longest ( hate to admit it though ) but that was awhile ago. Last time i flown a heli is my landlords cheapo ( keeps him happy though ) apart from that im using a awful RC heli sim on my ipad ( Blade CX ) and that app is fine although its using touch controls for sticks and I've become confident with that. SamS - so wish i could but my budget doesn't allow me to do that. And plus haven't flown a 4ch FP in real life something that expensive i'll crash and destroy. for those that have/had the 120 SR whats the max wind it can take ? ( even though I would be using it when there's next to no wind )

              Defo the Blade in RTF.

Then, when budget allows and you buy a shiny new DXnn you'll be able to ditch the PS3 controller and fly the Blade with the new TX.
(assuming the Honey doesn't use Spektrum receiver)

Hi Austin, that was my progress too cheap coax onto 120. Once the wind is above a ver light (summer evening) breeze it will just fly off! As a fixed pitch you have no negative pitch to bring it back down against the lift the breeze creates.
I now have a 130x which copes well with the wind (for it's size) also being collective it is a full six channel Heli able in the right hands to do some awesome stuff. It is a bit more pricey though. Sadly this is not a cheap branch of RC modelling, because once your addicted one Heli is just not enough! It is totally absorbing and very rewarding however when it starts to come together.
i have the same sim on my iPad and it is pretty basic (but fun) you would be better saving for a sim like Phoenix you can pick one up second hand for about £40. Using a second hand DX6i (spectrum). You can really nail the orientations whatever the weather is doing and then use it as you progress.
if you really want a Heli you could do a lot worse than the blade MSRX some good deals on this from Kings Lynn Model Shop.
sorry to ramble on hope some of it helps!

With the best will in the world, Buzzflyer recommend it because they're the only people in the UK that sell it. Everyone else (and I mean, everyone) sells Blade.

The HoneyBee's really do not have a good reputation. If Buzzflyer goes bust, you won't find parts anywhere else. Blade by contrast, there's easily 10 different stores I could mention off the top of my head that stock parts. There's probably in reality over 50 stores in the UK alone that have Blade parts.

Normally I tend to advise people to buy what's right for them rather than recommend a particular product, but in this case ... buy Blade.

good choice, i have a blade msrx and its skittish fun, in a good way, i also have just added a blade 450 3D to my growing list, just need some good weather now to give it and me the 'maiden flight'
I was given a honey bee king 3 as a gift, it was total rubbish, seriously.
If i had the money from day 1 & knowing what i know now, i would have got a blade 130x to start with.
                      Regards Ade.
I WOULD BE PATIENT.......IF I HAD THE TIME!!!
