  • looking for a summer outdoor heli for a biginner

    Hi all

Im a beginner. I can fly my 4ch heli indoors quite well. In Feb I got a blade nano cpx which I can hover reasonably ok. BUT summer is coming (I know this is the UK I'm being optimistic) but also I have a birthday in April.

So the question is what heli is the next step for outdoor use.
I was thinking blade 130x or 300 but have just been told informed about the price of the Blade 450 3d (which is the same cost as a 130x)
I have a dx6i and phoenix also and getting good practice on there a few times a week.

All info / suggestions greatly received.

    Hey Steve

Either of those helis would do you great.

The 130 is a great heli and is great for begginers and is more then capable of flying outdoors, cheap to repair and work on and also a lot of fun!

The 450 is also a great heli and it taught me a lot! The size might make you a bit nervous at first but once you get comfortable with it it really is very gentle and forgiving ans also cheap to repair!

At roughly the same price obviously you get a lot more with the 450 and If you go for that, get a pair of training balls to go on it like we use on phoenix

    Happy flying pal

      Thanks John.

Thing is I don't know if the price will be the same in April.
It would be with training gear and when I'm confident enough to fly it. So see you soon on Phoenix .

Either Heli will do you proud but you will make faster head-way with the 130 as it just eggs you on to do more and because of the size, its less intimidating. Nothing wrong with learning on a 450 and it will last longer, but the 130 took me to places the 450 never could. That said, you will always want to go bigger and eventually you'll succumb (I love my 550) but the 130 is a great all rounder

IMO.....If you are able to fly at a club and get an experienced flyer to check over your set-up and watch your first hover so they can advise on tiny trim adjustments and expo settings then I'd go for a Trex 450, and don't bother with training gear if you have a solid flat surface to land on (uneven grass can cause tip-overs until you are used-to gentle landings).

If it's not fun, why do it?

The blade 450 price will keep dropping mate I think and training balls are really cheep but help Alot

another advantage of the blade is that I comes already built, so all you have to do is follow the instructions in the manual to set up the transmitter, bind and fly

And defiantly mate see you on there soon

as above anything bigger than a 450 will be ideal for outdoors. Why not look at a second hand raptor 30 like you fly in phoenix all the time?
Some say my left nipple is the shape of a Raptor canopy.......... And that for fun I chase sheep in wellies 3 sizes too big. All I know is I am 3D Clod

I have a Blade 400 3D fly bar with mg servos, bec and 401 gyro you can have, if you pay for posting.

Gathering dust, some spares but no canopy is yours if you want it?
