Walkera 52#1 - Beginner!!

So, when I take delivery of my CX2, am I going to be able to do anything with it atall before having had to spend days plugging away at the sim?

I am quite a patient person, but I would love to get my hands on the Heli ASAP, even if I have to take great caution with it.

Try the sim first .... Get the hang of tail in hover then charger the battery the next day at least practice for a day and count how many times you floor it it will save you doing it for real.

You dont get into a supercar without having first passed a test in a micra.... Same thing

Does the CX2 come with whatever is needed to connect the TX to the PC? Or have I got to buy additional stuff? I kinda wish I could get into the sim before buying the Heli in all honesty, but I'm going to need a TX to get anywhere, aren't I?

if you buy phoenix yes it will.
for "quite a patient"person i would suggest downloading FMS its a poor,free flight sim but you can get away with using a gamepad as a controler!

I've used it with a USB PS2 controller, and it works, but has some significant drawbacks. If you have one already, it must be worth a try.

FMS works a lot better with the ~£25 E-Sky sim controller http://www.buzzflyer.co.uk/RC-Flight...05A/p-116-324/ . I found it worked better with this than with an E-Sky Tx - and it didn't use batteries.

However, FMS might not help you that much with a BCX2.

AFAICS, FMS has no models of co-axial helicopters (like a BCX2), so you end up fighting with something like a HoneyBee CP, which is quite a bit harder.

The BCX2 is very well behaved. Provided you can keep your head around what controls do what, don't get blown into something, and don't actively make it crash (like fly into something) it almost flies itself. Mine very nearly hovered hands-off out of the box. [Definite 'wow' moment.]

The models in FMS aren't like that. Getting them into a hover is hard work, and they don't want to stay there. IME, different challenges to starting with a co-axial. Not to say that you won't crash a co-ax - I certainly did & do - but it's for different reasons, like getting disoriented, panicking, confined spaces, etc.

I learnt more about co-axials from repeatedly crashing a LamaV4, than from FMS, and the BCX2 was then a joy. Though the BCX2 is so nice I don't want to crash it.

I've not used Phoenix. I'm currently using FMS to try and get to grips with hovering, etc in preparation for a HoneyBee CP2. Mixed success. I might end up splashing out on Phoenix. In which case I might have been better off splashing out on it in the first place.

like you say scally it works! i certainly would not recomend spending £25 on a controler just to use this sim. as i said in my original post its poor.
but the guy is wanting to try somthing so its free and available imediatley, and if he has a pad usable..

as always phoenix has to be the way forward it smacks all others into a tin hat.!!! and with a cx2 the controler is there too!! every bodys happy

Phoenix and the Blade CX will give you a really nice start in this godforsaken hobby.

Hopefully (before it's too late) you will realise that knitting was a much better idea

LOL. Though you guys are a wealth of information, I'm trying hard to not let you put me off!! I am also trying hard not to spend too much money before that important fork-in-the-road of me deciding that I actually enjoy it!!

I do want to use Phoenix as so many of you say its the one to go for and I can certainly see the sense in using your TX to control it, I am trying to avoid the inevitable, which appears to be spending £200 in one hit! Remember this started out with the cheapo 2-channel Heli, then with me thinking I could do soemthing with a £70 Walkera jobbie! Now here we are at £200!! LOL.
