  • getting back into flying

Hi all its been a long while since I was flying, I crashed my blade 450 3d last year and lost intrest, yesterday I received an e-mail with some good offers on it so I decided to bite the bullet and get flying again. I have just ordered a blade 120 Sr and a blade mcpx v2. I wanted these last year and at the price I have paid for BnF versions, I just had to get them. Hopefully they will be here in the next few days and I can dust off the dx6i. must say nervous and excited. will be fixing my t-rex 100 and 450 3d over the next few weeks.

    cheers all
    Matt

      Re: getting back into flying

Yeh thank you, I had my eye on the 120 Sr for a while as a bigger bird to my t-rex 100, sadly the charge lead adapter was missing from the box today when it arrived, so I had a cheeky fly of the mcpx tonight in the workshop at work and all I can say is wow, for a micro heli straight out of the box it is very stable, held a hands off hover for a good few secs. I can see why people get a little nervous with them as they are a little on the lively side, I found it far easier to hold it in a good hover than my blade 450 3d or the t-rex 100. I'm a very happy bunny, just need to master flying now.

      cheers Matt

Welcome back. Don't be put off by a crash or two. I have had lots of unscheduled landings. It gives you good practice in rebuilding helis. Mine seem to fly better after I have rebuilt them.
Take your time mastering flying (I am not there yet) just enjoy it.

              Re: getting back into flying

just had a fly of the 120 Sr and I'm happy with it, fair more forgiving then the mcpx, which at times due to its sprightly nature can become a bit of a hand full. only down side to the 120 is caused by the flybar, the toilet bowl effect I belive it's referred as. but getting a stable hover even for a novice like myself is easily achievable. will try and get a vid up at some point.

              cheers matt

                      Welcome back

The mcpx is excellent to get the basics nailed like learning orientations indoors
Then when you get it outside on a calm day you'll be amazed again

Little update, been mainly flying the 120 Sr, now able to hold a steadyish hover for a full battery, give it a few more days and a little work on my landing and I'm gonna start broad side orientation, is it best to take off tail in and then turn to broadside or just take off broadside?

Had a few minor moments but no damage luckely.

Also is there anyone in the reading / maidenhead area that would be willing to come teach and fly with me? Now the weather is getting nicer I want to get the 450 back in the air.

                        Cheers all

                          getting back into flying

Once you are confident with a nice stable hover the next step is usually whats called a hovering T.

Keeping the model in a tail in orientation from the hover begin to move the model slowly out to the left a few meters, stop into a nice hover again. Then start to bring it back slowly to the right flying (still tail in) past the take off position and out over to the right hand side.

This will start getting you used to moving the helicopter around, how to stop the model and put it back into a controlled hover, and starts you off getting used to a side on hover.

Once you are confident with this then work on turning the model with a rudder input get you in a side on orientation.

Ok cool, I have been doing this to a small extent, I will focus more on it. Any tips for gentle controlled landings? I have the heli under control till about 3 cm off the floor. The ground effect seriosly takes over and I sort off skid land.
