It then stayed like this with the status on red and N to H lighting up alternately and it ignored any input from the tx.
How long did you let the LEDs cycles like that for? They do this while the beastx and gyros initialise. When they're done, the swash moves a few times. Only after that will the TX make any effect I've known this sequence to take upwards of 10-20 seconds.
I just tried it again and let the LEDs cycle for over two minutes, no joy. As 450man said, it won't rebind either. I was hoping the LEDs might give an indication of the problem, if not and I can't resolve it I'll be sending it back to horizon tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone for their help and special thanks to 450man for taking the time to drive all the way to my house and take a look at it for me!

This might help. I haven't used the proper flybarless rx that you have, but I have a 130-X. Mine often doesn't initialize properly and it seems to be because the heli moves during initialisation. If the heli is on a rough surface or if it's held absolutely steady it is ok. The msr-x is similar and initialises much more quickly if the battery is connected when outside of the heli so that connecting the battery does not move or vibrate the heli at all. I've thought of some sort of mount to hold the heli, or perhaps there's another method.

We connected the battery on his living room table and completely stationary with the battery outside the heli.

In fact, I nearly always connect my batteries to my helis outside the heli whenever possible. It keeps the heli stationary (as you say) but it also makes connecting it up much easier too.

I think I'll start doing that on the 130-X, took 3 attempts today. Never had that problem on gyros. My 130-X doesn't have much thrust in Idle Up 1. Bit of a surprise as I was expecting it to go up and it just stayed there. I can fly the 130-X much slower then my 450 trex clone.

I've been on the phone with Electriflyer & Horizon today. Electriflyer are going to replace my psu and refund my return postage. Horizon have asked that I send just the AR7200BX back to them but they won't refund my postage. They won't accept my crappy IR stock battery back either as I changed the connector on it. Lesson learned.

I just got my replacement PSU back from ElectriFlyer. I posted it on Tuesday, it arrived on Wednesday, they sent a replacement out the same day and it arrived today (Thursday). Great service and the guy was a pleasure to deal with, he even called me back within 20 mins of getting my first email!

As I had to remove the AR7200BX does anybody have any tips on how to remove the sticky residue left behind on the frame? I managed to get most of it off with an old credit card but there is still a thin sticky surface left behind. I want to clean the plastic to remove this residue for when my replacement arrives but I don't want to use anything that's going to leave an oily residue or anything else behind so I've got a good clean surface to reattach it too. Any suggestions?

My replacement AR7200BX arrived today but despite me asking them to, horizon have not set it up like the ones that come with the heli. :-(

I've gone through the options it gives you in the 450x manual but now I'm stuck. This was never going to be easy, I don't know how they can get away with calling these bind and fly, more like mess around for days on end and then learn every aspect of how it to set it up properly in the hope you don't miss one tiny thing and wreck it on its first flight.

Maybe this will serve as a warning to anybody thinking they can bind and fly these things.

This has gone so far off topic I think its time for a new thread, if I can muster any more energy to put into this dam thing.

Well, I bound and flew withing a few minutes of plugging in the battery for the first time!

You have been unlucky but in this hobby you will have much bigger set backs than this. I suggest that you try to get used to it

For example... my Trex 450 tilted over on lift-off when I first got it. The blades struck the grass but I thought there was no damage and flew it several times after without problem. On inspection I had damaged one of the servos... so took them all off to inspect and found I had damaged 2 of the 3 cyclic servos... so ordered 3 new servos (taking the opportunity to get Hitecs instead of Aligns). Fitting servos I noticed the swash was damaged so ordered new swash. While refitting new swash I broke a ball link! DOH! Ordered new ball links. So after a week and 3 separate orders online I still don't yet have it fixed... it should be fixed over the weekend unless I find something else!!!

This is hugely frustrating but as a relative newbie it is just part of the hobby and part of the learning process and part of the fun! Flying helis is not a "buy and fly" hobby unless you have pots of money so you might want to ask yourself if this is really the hobby for you if this little set back is winding you up that much? Just a thought...
