  • My first flight of a CP heli!

    Hi Guys,

Well My grin is ear to ear! So far I've flown a "few" flight on my Lama. Played with Pheonix Sim and thats it!

It's taken me 2 months of tinkering to get my first "big heli" setup. It's a protech Zoom 450 EP...

Well today I went down the park and flew 2 batteries out of it... I got 8 minutes per bettery. (I used a count down timer, and have yet to chekc how much "juice" is left in them...)

I'll upload teh video to youtube shortly and past a link here for you all to
    criticise!

That aint bad going at all mate!

keep it up! its great when it all works right and you get a good flight.

i took my Twisters out for a play, the Storm is very impressive (still needs alot of setting up though)

unfortunatly the CP really dont like a breeze
its fine when its up there and being thrown around, its getting the damn thing back down without the wind punching it in the the deck (yes it did) LOL

        all good fun though

        keep it up matey

Hey, thanks for your kind words!

I'm just waiting for the weather to improve a little now so I can go practice practice practice....

I'll keep going with phoenix sim in the mean time! I find right side and nose in hovering I am a little weak compared to left side in hovering. Basically I wouldn't want to try it on the real thing quiet yet! As occasionally I put the "wrong" stick direction in still....

Once I can get all orientations right I guess it's time to start practicing flying around a little... Strangely on teh lama I'm fine with all orientations. I guess it's because I have plenty of time to "think" with the lama.

          lol

            Ok Guys,

So I finally got her abck in the sky today.... A bit rough around the edges, I'm not sure if this was my nerves or something still needing to be worked out of the "system"....

But anyway.. Here's the quizz... What's missing from the heli in this photo??? (Taken just after getting home as you can tell from all the finely diced grass all over her....) (How do you link to a photo in the gallery with the nice thumbnail?)

dont know whats missing - could it be 1 of the flybar weights?

Nothing that crucial! My training gear is gone!

I took em off to make working on the heli easier, ran out of cable ties, so left em off and went flying....

I was PAPPING myself the whole way!

Looks like a nice little heli ther mate!

i also went for a little buzz round today, had a grate time, unitill i got a little too cocky with the Twister Storm, did several loops and rolls each one getting better, then the old man said, "see if you can clime straight up and piroett at the same time", me being me rose to the challenge, i did it, but then lost orientation and by the time i got her back under controll it ran out of sky! LOL
minimal damage, fethering bar, skid and slight dink in the boom.

Ouch!!!!! Don't you just hate it when that happens!

I'm a mile away from any sort fo aerobatics... The best I can do is stall turns. And in real life they are pretty damn ropey!

Stability in the air wise... Well I had changed so much since last flying I'm not sure what is down to what!

I upgraded the rotor head (metal swash, metal washout base/arms metal see-saw's and metal fly-bar cage). Plsu I moved the balls ont eh washout base arms to the outside hole, apparently for "expert", I think it improves the control throws... So she was certainly a lot more twitchy...

I might move them basll back to teh middle holes again.. Or maybe try a little +'ve exponential on the TX. I really was far too nervouse to have any fun.. But I did about 6 landings to practice hovering absolutely still before putting her down!

She still seems to suffer from vortex ring state a little if I come down too quick with very little horizontal movement. Noramlly takes almost full collective to slow the descent and not touch the ground. It shoudl be less of an issue once I get my confidence back and get her moving forwards more again.
