  • Flight Time

Apologies if this has been covered before, but I've never found a comprehensive answer to the question...

How long should I expect a heli to be able to fly for? On Blade mCP X / V2 Review, four minutes is described as disappointing. I can understand that, given the size, and I had always assumed that larger models would last for longer. But I just read on the forum here someone say that five minutes is what you'd expect on a 450.

I realise that the question is a lot like asking the length of a piece of string as you'd be able to extend flight time by increasing the battery weight but at the expense of manoeuvrability, but is there a sweet spot for flight time?

Or is it something that's not that important as everyone carries around a bunch of charged cells?

    Thanks!

There are lots of things that influences flight times...headspeed, style of flying, quality of battery ect. My 450 could probably stretch to 6 or 7 mins but I find 5 minutes is plenty of flight time. If you can charge at the field with a genny you can pretty much fly all day with only a few batteries.

I fly my nitros for 6 minutes. When I land there is still a 1/4 tank left. This makes it easier on the fuel bill. My 700n is thirsty!

interestingly I dont really have variable flight times on my 500/550/700 - all timers are set to 6.30minutes and all come back with the appropriate amount left in the pack - recently I have reduced it to 6minutes as I am trying more manoeuvres just to be sure ...

I think 6 minutes is a lot of time to concentrate and I feel quite knackered after a day at the field with usually like an hour or bit more of real flight/stick time in total ...

others however who utilise the heli more cant expect the battery to last that long, Andy K brought my pack down to 4% (direct reading after the flight, but actually 10% when I charged it) during a flight ... so it depends what you do with your model as mentioned before

6 mins is about right if your just crusing around and have don't have the head speed maxed out, if it's maxed out and your pulling some real hard 3D it can be as low as 3 mins.

ppl fly a pack land doodle about for a few mins new pack in quick look over heli and any totty walking by then fly again,
