Hi guys, name is Glenn. Just bought the nano cpx today as RTF and using dx4e as im not sure wether i would enjoy it enough to fund the hobby as i'm already an extremely keen mini moto rider and racer. I've never flown a proper electric helicopter before. My god it is nails. Trying to hover in the living room is nails. Got the Phoenix v4 simulator and that is helping alot. Any tips or advise? Or training sites etc. Cheers shep

Hi Glenn and welcome to the forum. Looks like you have already taken a great route into the hobby. The rest really is just practise. Buy a few spare batteries for your nano cpx and just fly it until you can do circuits effortlessly. Try not to run before you walk though. Practise hovering in all orientations and try actually flying the heli and not having it control you (if that makes sense?)

Thanks mate. I keep seeing the word circuit. Is that keeping forward and banking into the corner to turn or just going round a circle ? Cheers. Thanks for reply. I know I've put myself in the deep end but after reading a few threads a second hand dx6 would be tempting got another 5 batteries ordered so will have more flight time and I have access to a large indoor room. Like a gym

This might help http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/there's also lots of vids on you tube ..also enable the expo on your dx4e it will make the stick less sensitive around the middle

Sounds like you have the perfect grounds to practise with your new toy. A circuit is one repetition of a circle. Basically a circle in forward flight which takes you through all the orientations of the helicopter but in forward flight. Youll probably find its easier to do faster but its all about control and doing it slower.
Again you fly the heli dont let it fly you. Doing a circuit lets you see the helicopter in 4 different orientations. These are tail in (where the controls on the sticks make the helicopter move the same way you push them), side on nose right (this can be learned a little easier if you turn your body side on to suit but look to the side at the helicopter, move your body round a bit at a time until eventually your standing fully facing th helicopter but its flying side on), nose in (the trickier of these orientations. You will find all the cyclics reversed on the sticks. So pushing forward will make the heli come towards you for example.), side on nose left (cyclics opposite to nose right and can be learned the same way by turning your body, you will probably find that one of the side ons is easier than the other. Try not to fall int the trap of getting one sided and flying your circuits all the same way. Fly them both clockwise and counter-clockwise).
          Good luck!

This is a life saver. Done the expo enabled and got it hovering ok in my small living room for about 5-7 seconds. (6ft square open space to fly lol). Btw what does expo mean/ stand for. ? Cheers

Cheers jd. Switched expo on ( btw what is expo) and I got it hovering in the tight space I had for 5-8 seconds a time cheers.

                          Gah.. I'm noob to M2F

I think its shorts for it Exponential makes the center of stick less sensitive so small movements dont send you flying into the wall on some TX's it can have a percentage set.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

                          Got it wrong lol

Your mostly there jd... Yes it is short for exponential. Its effect is that it softens the stick movements around centre stick. What it does not do is shorten the travel of the servo to do this. Think of it as a kind of delay on the servo. Well thats presuming we are talking about plus (+) expo. Minus (-) expo would do the opposite and sharpen up the feel around centre stick. This is in the case of your transmitter. It gets a little more complicated when your using say a Futaba transmitter as what i have just said above works opposite. So plus would sharpen the feel and minus soften it
Dont confuse expo with Dual rates as this can be a common mis-conception. Dual rates do reduce the travel of the servos and this will also make the helicopter less sensitive. The difference being that it is throughout the whole range of movement and not just the centre.
Hope that helps... Just shout if ya dont understand an ill try to explain further.
