Unfortunatly even if you could get the blades spinning the thing won't fly, it may lift off the ground momentarily but you won't have any control because these models are quite simply a con, they don't have enough channels.
You need at least 5 and you've only got 3 and a half whatever that means!
These things are sold knowing that you'll crash it straight away and just put it down to your lack of experience rather than the thing being impossible to fly.Guy

How many 5 channel coax helis do you know of?Originally posted by Gate88 View PostUnfortunatly even if you could get the blades spinning the thing won't fly, it may lift off the ground momentarily but you won't have any control because these models are quite simply a con, they don't have enough channels.

Blade Scout is 3 channel, mCX is 4 channel
I can't say I have any love for the Double Horse products, but you can't say they are a con just because they have only 3 channels for a co-ax.
Not sure I can help the op though, by the time you've replaced enough parts to find the problem you probably would have been better off buying a new one.

We are seeing a whole raft of these Co-ax helis appearing everywhere now, toy shops, Sunday markets, e-bay list thousands. The problem is people see heli flying as a hobby they think they will enjoy and buy one of these and think they are away. The thing we are talking about here is as big, if not bigger than a 450 - for less than the price of a 450 tail servo! You can see the attraction.
I think anyone reading this post and with similar repair questions or similar machines should ask themselves if they enjoyed the flying experience they had. If they did, then buy a "proper" model helicopter. If at all possible find a club to join FIRST. I run a biggish indoor club and see this all the time - new starters coming along with a heli they bought to learn on - and 9 times out of 10 its either a toy such as this, an awful plastic 450 clone or just as equally inaapropriate for their (non existant) skill level.
Join a club and seek advice. If you don't want do that go and buy a Blade 120SR. From experience with many, many learners I can tell you that it is the best heli there is for beginners.__________________________________________

True guys, but you've got to remember that most folks don't know any better. They're interested in helis and want to try them, so they buy what's readily available. That's how I got into this - via Syma 3-channel toys.
I see these toys as (potentially) a cheap way to attract people into the hobby. If they truly are interested (as I was), they will progress onto 4 and 6 channel helis in due course. I think that the more support you give people - at all stages of his hobby (yes, including these toys
) - the more people we will attract to progress.
That said, looks like (from his sig) that the OP - Ryan is already looking to progress!
@RYAN CAIRNS That all said - Double Horse helis aren't really designed to be fixable in modular components, so doubt you'll have much luck with that I'm afraid!

Ryan - one final point. You're probably better off not flying that Double Horse. I've yet to come across a 3-channel toy heli that has the transmitter controls the right way round (ie. typically mode-2 - throttle/rudder on left, cyclic on right). Every 3-channel toy I had would have rudder on the right stick along with rudimentary elevator (ish).
Bottom line - it would teach you the wrong controls anyway. Flying helis is alot to do with muscle memory. Flying this heli will just hold you back. Stick with the sim you mention you've already got, and as Dave says, consider a Blade 120SR as a first "proper" helicopter.

not really true! These helis are uber-stable. All they want to do is hover on one spot. The "elevator" such as it is, is a fan type thing at the end of the tail boom which tries to "tip" the heli forwards or backwards, mimicking proper cyclic elevator.Originally posted by Gate88 View PostUnfortunatly even if you could get the blades spinning the thing won't fly, it may lift off the ground momentarily but you won't have any control because these models are quite simply a con, they don't have enough channels.

Trouble is, because there's no cyclic control, the fan is always fighting the stable nature of the main rotors, hence the top speed of these birds is slightly slower than an asthmatic ant.

As far as I know his model isn't a co-ax!Originally posted by Mark_T View PostHow many 5 channel coax helis do you know of?

I'll bow to your greater knowledge then Mark, I shall try flying my Trex 600 with just 3.5 channels on Sunday and we'll see how well it flies shall we?

Just take the time to fit the second rotor head and counter-rotating blades, rotate the tail boom 90 degrees and you're good to goOriginally posted by Gate88 View PostI'll bow to your greater knowledge then Mark, I shall try flying my Trex 600 with just 3.5 channels on Sunday and we'll see how well it flies shall we?

Seriously, I really hate the way people get suckered into buying these things as they are usually only one crash away from the bin, but if they serve to get someone into the hobby then move them on to something with more longevity then it is not all bad.

sadly people buy them first, then google rc helicopters and arrive here second Mark!
