  • Looking for a second helicopter as a gift

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum but I hope some people can give me a few suggestions.

My brother bought me a Picco Z for Christmas which my father has had more enjoyment out of than I have! It is coming up to his birthday so I thought I could buy him a slightly more advanced helicopter.

My budget is around £100 (give or take) and I'm looking for a three channel indoor helicopter which isn't too big (obviously not as small as the picco Z)

What would people recommend, as I don't know too much about RC helicopters?

    Thanks in advance

    James

firstly you need 4channel to give you full control. we normaly recomend somthing like the blade cx2 which costs around £115 ready to fly. but there are cheaper alternatives such as twister medivac. twister black hawk.helixxx 3d. lama v4 etc just google coaxial rc helicopter!( word up though try and avoid walkera)

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a look at those models.

How much control do you have on a 4 channel helicopter? With my Picco Z (two channel) I could control the elevation, and then spin clockwise/anticlockwise (as well as adjusting the trim)

Do the four channel helicopters let you control control forwards/backwards and sideways motion?

Yeah , a 4 channel heli will allow you to control the elevation , rotation , fowards and backwards motion , and strafe side to side =)

Thanks for clearing that one up.

Can anyone suggest the best UK sites to find these models? Google tends to keep bringing back results for US sites.

www.modelzone.co.uk offer a 4channel apache ah64 coaxial for £99.99 its relatively easy to control but not great in a breeze of wind , there is a bigger version which handles well outside for 289.99 (this is what i had) but your price range doesnt allow for that , i suggest the Apache or the CX2 =)

I would recommend the Blade CX2. It has the advantage of having a Spektrum 2.4 GHz based radio system so you can fly happy in the knowledge that no one will turn on their transmitter a couple of streets away and cause you to crash (and vice - versa).
                Cheers, Lee.

hi scallybert welcome to the forum.
the answer is because there are better quality heli's and radio gear out there! ive had a couple of walkera heli's and in my opinion they were rubbish!
admitedly i was a beginner and it was before i used this forum, but they put me off the hobby for a while!

exept here's a quote from another post

"I had the same thing happen with my LamaV4, when I hadn't got the battery installed properly (or maybe I'd 'landed' heavily and unseated it...)."
