  • What to get now?

    Hello everyone,

It's been a while since i last posted on here but i've been flying my Honeybee CP3 regularly now but i feel that i need something more stable and easier to fly to progress any further. I'm looking at a T-Rex 450 Plus RTF for around the £350 mark at the moment and i just wanted to get some advice on whether this would be the best way to go? I know that the better model is probably the 450 Sport V2 or the Pro but nome of these comes RTF and costs an absolute fortune to spec up with the transmitter etc.

What is the difference between all of the 450 models? Are they all the same size? Would the 450 plus be the logical step? I'm nowhere near attempting 3D (and probably never will be) so i'm looking for smooth flight and something big enough to take out in mild winds that won't be flung about too much (like the CP3!).

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Tom.

Hi Tom Align 450's are the same size they just differ in bling spec, more metal components etc also TT as against belt drive tail.
But for learning on the belt drive is more forgiving in hard landings and all very upgradeable if you stick with the hobby.
The 450's can be tamed down with the settings to produce a nice learning platform the can be hovered/practised with in relatively small areas but will not be so stable in gusty winds etc.
We went the 450 route and never looked back.
The package you are looking at is very good value but the TX is FHSS not FASST basically less range on the FHSS,but superb quality none the less.
There will be 2 camps the e-flite and Align and speccy Vs Futaba the choice is yours.
Align and FUTABA are my choices.
Just some FASST info Futaba 6EXA 2.4GHz FASST FAQ
      The Fleet

SAB Goblin 500 sport. (in build)
XK K110 on its way. Arrived and superb
      Blade MCPX (just about airworthy)
Trex 450 Pro on Brain 2
Raptor 30 V2. Converted to electric with Quick UK conversion
      Mini Titan super Cobra ah1
      Alien 550 Quad.3DR Pixhawk
      Futaba 7C 8FGS 14SG
      Specktrum DX6i
Hovered by me,flown by my boys Nicholas and Edward.

+1 on the 4503D or 450X by Blade .. Fantastic heli's .. Parts arn't too expensive and they just generally fly great.

Blade 450x is what i fly ive had a trex 450 pro fbl and it was a nice machine
But 450x standard with the new beast gyro is faultless in my opinion
Ive crashed the 450x hard b4 and its not broke!!

Thanks everyone, I must admit, having looked at the spec on the Blade 450x it seems that I might be swinging towards that. Can I just confirm though that if I bought this: E-Flite Blade 450X 3D Flybarless BNF - New In that I would only need to then buy at transmitter? A dx6i?

Thank you again for your help everyone!

the 450 is not a big jump from the honey bee cp3 in fact theres only a inch in it the 450 do have more weight and head speed so fly more stable but if i was you i would look at a second hand 500 and a dx6i there 1 for sale on this forum for 270 and 30 quid for battery's then add in 80 quid for a transmitter and now you have a nice Helli that would handle more wind and would look bigger than your honey bee cp

i own a honey bee v2/3 and a 450 and size wise there practically the same but the 450 flys much better hands down

Thanks for the link – i'm thinking that kind of thing would be my next move from the 450 size – still got a long way to go learning before i'd feel comfortable flying that! Thanks anyway though, it looks lovely...

Yep, the Link you sent is correct, All you will need is the DX6i. The BNF kit comes with a Lipo as well.

I'd say get a used FBL Trex 500 ... there are loads for sale all the time ... great value to run, good flight times from cheap lipos and nice step from a sub 400

                          I would get something new.

Second hand is fine if you know what you are looking at/looking for, but IMO its much better starting out with something that you know wont be bent in the first place.

The first dozen or so flights with anything I have had second hand have always been a bit wobbly, worrying about if it is built properly or not.

The alternative is to strip down a second hand machine completely, and then rebuild from scratch, but it sounds like you want BNF rather than build from your OP.

Until you know what you are doing, the 450X is a massive step forwards from the honeybee, compared with a badly built or maintained second hand 500.
