i would have said, buy DX6i then

          1) indoor starts with MSR then 120SR ( they cope with tip overs quite well)

          2) then onto MCPx then 130x ( higher performance, and dont cope with tipping over nearly so well )

          3) then 450x ( very high performance at learning stages, and really dont like tip overs at all )

          after that follow your heart

PS Blade 450 is excellent heli, one of the best along with 450 Trex

As said the dx6i is the key imo
As all bnf heli's can work with these

I still say the mcpx is a fantastic learning tool and taught me to hover in all orientations indoors,

Then when you're ready to go outside its more than capable

It's the perfect stepping stone to the 130x

Hey we might be twins! I just did pretty much the same thing, dx6i phoenix & an mcx.

Am really enjoying it & while I know its good advice to discipline yourself to avoid crashes in the sim to get good practice, I have also had a blast trying out some lively models and doing loops etc, for sure I crash them...a lot!

Would have cost me a fortune in real life. The Mcx was fine for getting used to the basic controls and orientation but tbh I'm bored of it now so have ordered a nano for christmas, though it might be too 'lively' for me. I debated getting a 130x and using outside but its cold out there right now

I'm thinking of a blade 450x or similar by the summer if I've progressed by then and am going to find a local club so I can 'soak up' other ppls experience,

Hope you keep at it and are having as much fun as me,

I have found phoenix to be a bit basic on training, the videos are good and having the controller on display helps but I think they should have a 'ghost bird' to follow and maybe even some 'auto manouvers' where you just control cp or cyclic so you can isolate but maybe thats just me wanting it on a plate.

Best of luck and have fun

I started 8 months ago with a Trex 100 , then trex 450, sim ,trex 600 , nano cpx & a 130x , The 100 was great for basic control (learned alot on this) but for some reason i don't like the sim & i went straight on to the 450 & 600 which i can manage but i find my self going back now to the nano & 130x (xmas presi) hopefully giving me more use with a lot less repair costs AND being able to push the boundrys , kenny d
