  • My MCPX has arrived!!!

    Hello,
I just got my first cp heli delivered yesterday, a blade mcpx, WOW what a step up from my fp helis!
Up until now I have been flying a V911 4ch and a honey bee v2, the mcpx is light years ahead of these two!!
It is so much more responsive and has loads more power.
So after watching a few setup vids on youtube I decided to give it a "test flight" in my living room,
I either need a bigger living room or to attempt this again outside....A few scary momments but managed to stay in the air (not for long), not hit anything and land
Really looking forward to taking this outside on the weekend, If the weather allows me to???

If anyone has an mcpx and has some handy tips they would be greatly appreciated

What TX have you got? If it's a DX6i or similar then I'd recommend dumbing it down by putting in more dual rates and expo, if you look on the mCPX threads there are plenty of posts with recommended values

top tip : The main gear (big white cog) has a habit of slipping down the mainshaft after a crash. After every crash, check the the main shaft has no up/down play. If it has, push the main gear back up snug. Easiest way of doing this is to use a pen top or something similar to push the cog whilst pushing against the main head.

I got the heli rtf and I am using the dx4 that came with it. I am saving for a new tx so its all I got for now.
Can the settings be adjusted on the dx4?

No just make sure you use the dual rate switch...will still be good to fly. Fly it outside over long grass and hit the throttle hold button (top left...but don't forget to press it 3 times quickly when you want to disengage it and fly again ) and you shouldn't do much damage. When you do crack/split/snap the tail boom replace it with a longer bit of 2mm carbon rod as that's virtually indestructible

There's an "official" long tail boom mod now from HH which uses a solid carbon rod

In addition to the above good advice, before attempting to push the main gear back up, make sure that the recess on the main shaft is lined up with the flat section of the main gear (mine has the tendency to spin round slightly so that they are no longer aligned and they have to be aligned in order for the main gear to push back up into place).

Also, tie single piece of cotton to each of the two links on the head (the ones that connect the blade grips to the swash plate), such that you have a knot around one that connects to a knot around the other (and not so you are wrapping cotton round the head - they idea here is not to stop them popping off in a crash, but to stop you losing them if they do pop off in a crash).

The official tail is £10, the carbon rod is £1.85 plus P&P (which comes to much more than the rod but is still less than £10 and you get about 7 booms out of it So unless you've gosed the motor makes more sense to get the rod....but down to individual choice

I have not tried them, but the bullet blades are supposed to be more stable I think

Yeah true. I'm just a bit lazy (and can't work with tiny fiddly bits). fitting the pre-made tail was fiddly enough for me!

I went from a v911 to an mCPx. What I loved was the sound of the rotor compared to the v911, you get much more the big heli "thump thump thump" sound and a lot more power to play with!

After flying the mCPx, the v911 is going to feel like a family MPV compared to a Ferrari. You'll be flying the v911 around the house without even thinking about it, and it will seem very easy.

The v911 seemed difficult to fly indoors to start but now I can zip about the house, the difference between the two is awesome!
Might be some time before the mcpx is zipping about the house.....

I can now hover the mcpx in the living room for the 5-6 minutes of battery, Still not managed to fly outdoors as the weather has been really bad here!
I have modded the tx so the clicks on the throttle stick are now gone, makes it much easier to control indoors.
I still need to work on the blade pitch as I seem to have alot more positive, About 20/80, not planning to be inverted so I think this is ok for now?
This is one tough little heli, loads of crashes and all I have done so far is broken a part of the landing gear, nothing a bit of super glue couldnt fix!

If you are going to fly outside then take off the tail fin, it behaves much better in wind without it!
