  • Newbie Help - which one

Hi just starting out in Heli's been flying rc planes/jets for a few years now but decided to go and try Heli's. I have been using Reflex Xtr to practice on, i am able to hover and fly about reasonable to some degree. I was wondering which Heli would be the right one

    Mini Titan or the T-rex 450SE v2

    Kit or ARF

Also i am using a FF9 super tx are these Heli's easy to programe with this tx any info out there on the web which will point me in the right direction on setting up the tx to the Heli.

    Thanks wichet

    A couple of questions:

1 what sort of budget do you have

2 does it need to be electric

I suggest you buy the Trex 450SE v2 - in kit form to help with the learning process of how they are put together. It's always advisable to rebuild RTF stuff to make sure threadlock has been used in the right places...

FF9 is a nice radio, easy enough to program and nice graphs and stuff on there to give better visual clues as to throttle and pitch curves etc.
You won't have any issues programming a heli with this Tx.

www.trextuning.com is chock full of information on pretty much everything to do with trex heli's - most of which translates to most other brands too.

        Cheers,

Well I don't have much experience of the Titan, but I fly the TREX 450V2 and so do many people I know. It looks great, flies particularly well for a micro and is very cheap to repair (in heli terms anyway) , parts are everywhere and theres loads of advice on the internet. To me it's a no-brainer and I KNOW you will be happy with one.

You can use your FF9, but bear in mind it's carbon fibre and there are potential glitches with 35Mhz. If you budget can stretch I'd consider a DX7 TX which will give you the peace of mind you can fly anywhere. However the FF9 will be fine if not.

If you buy the kit you will need the following additional stuff (here's thye proven stuff that works and will save you going through the "buy twice" routine).

          3 x Cyclic Servos Hitec HS65MGs
          1 x Futaba 401 Gyro (poss. the Spartan 760)
1 x Futaba S9650 tail servo (poss. Futaba 9257 is also a faster servo with less torque)

Lipo packs and charger. The best ones available are the revolution 2100 available from www.aurorra.co.uk

Blades, speed controller and motor come with the v2 and they are really capable so no need to replace.

Final advice - stear clear of RTF!
