i need to replace the rotors on my hummingbird electric heli, can anyone give me some advice on how to balance them, and do i need a special tool for the job?
its important for ALL blades heli blades to be balanced whether they be for collective or fixed pitch
simplest (but not the most accurate) way is to bolt them together and balance them on your finger with the bolt adding weight eg. tracking tape, to the lightest blade.
"A pitch gauge for balancing?" -- Thats new.
For these fixed pitch micro's would have thought a accurate set of digital kitchen scales would do the job , don't forget blade C of G is important too!! - Why not treat the wife they can be very useful.
Dave
I took my blades down to the local post office. They have a digital scale that goes down to one gram. An elastic band as found on the counter weighed in at about 2 to 3 grams, so this should be quite accurate
Most kitchen scales of the digital variety are accurate to within 2 grammes - close enough for blade weighing.
Unless as mack says you live next door to post office !!
Dave
My friend Eric balanced my blades on the shuttle with a Vario blade balancer on Sunday, the accuracy was amazing and you can see the difference such a small weight change makes with it's precision.
