  • Total Beginner 450 kit building

Having studied the brilliant threads by 'beenflying' and 'finless bob' on 450 construction, I decided to have a go. My reasoning was that the cheapest kit available would give me some experience and, if the whole thing failed, I'd have lost little in cash terms.

I therefore bought a Hobby King 450 CCPM 3D kit and, if any other beginners would like to read about my experiences, I'll be happy to continue this thread with piccies as required.

There have been threads on low price clones recently, but your experience may be different and all information is useful.

i just bought the hk450mt version the other day, seems a good kit , servos installed, boom installed, bit fiddly getting the tail and the rod to mesh up , but so far so good

OK - I don't want to bore people but as a complete newbie I thought maybe my experience may be helpful for those considering a similar start into heli kit construction. I'll just bow out if I'm being a PITA.

Do it, if you photograph the steps you struggle with then people can jump in and help out.

The difficult part is actually setting up the electronics, there is nothing too hard about the actual mechanics.

I would be interested to see how someone with no experience gets on with doing it on there own.
There are a few clone build threads so there is some advice there but there is nothing wrong with doing a build threads em if ere are others... People's approaches are different.

Make sure you put it I. The right forum and link to it from this thread.

              Cheers

Hi Ken, Most of the build threads go in the forum related to that helicopter. so I'd stick it in the trex 450 forum, and make sure you point out that it is a clone in the title or the ethics police will jump all over it!

I am not a moderator so I don't know the policies and as you are targeting beginners then you may be fine doing it here, if I were looking for help though I'd be searching the forum related to the bird I was making.

definitely link to it here though.

                  Cheers

For your own sanity I'd take a good quality close up of any part before you take it apart and loctite it. There are usually more ways of putting it back together than you'd think and only one is correct. The blade holder arms for instance can go either left or right on some helis. Instructions don't always give you all the information either.

Someone mentioned an MT kit. I bought one of those and found the metal bends easily. A carbon fibre frame is much better. A clone frame is much cheaper than an Align.
