  • Newbie with Esky Honey bee v1

Hello all! I recently got an old honey bee, it's not the v2 and its in a bit of a state, but I wanted to have a go at fixing it up to (hopefully) a good enough state for it to fly!
I'm a first time rc heli flyer and need a few pointers on what's normal and what isn't in regards to the gyro, every time I start it up I'm getting a mixture of green and red lights flashing, the heli seems to do some sort of self test (is the only way I an describe this) where by all the servos move by themselves and both rotors kick in momentarily in like an on/off jolting fashion... Due to me not getting a manual or anything with the heli I don't know how normal this is, but when I let it do its thing it stops after a while, and there's just a green light on the gyro, as soon as I try to throttle up the gyro light turns red and nothing happens. I'm guessing the battery is dead as the lights go quite dim, so I'm charging the batteries now, it's the 8.4V Ni-MH EK1-0100 pack, which I've had to splice up a 12v router power supply and used a pot to regulate the current.

Does anyone have a honey bee v1 manual in the form of a PDF or have any general set up and diagnostic advice for this heli? All I can find is Honey bee v2 an king resources, I'm guessing things for this heli are hard to come by due to its age!

Many many thanks in advance for any help given!

    Hi Link,

There is a load of info on the esky honeybee king at the heliguy website forum.

The jolting behaviour does sound like low voltage (my daughters RC car does this when the battery is flat.)

check out the finless bob basics or 101 videos on helifreak (you need to be a memeber, free to join)
these go through swashplate set up and gyro's and right into how stuff works, the helicopters may be different but the mechanics are all based on the same concept, ccpm is common so once you understand what it does and how it works you will be in a better position to set up your king.

hope this helps get you flying!

incidentally get some training under carriage if you don't know how to fly! some simulator practice will never hurt either!.

    hope this helps
    Steve
