the only real value advice I can give you is to find a club near you and join.
there are a lot of variables in setting up a heli and if you are a total beginner it will be easy to overlook something.

there is a forum based in the US called helifreak and inside there is a forum called finless bob's helifreak tech room.

within this is a wealth of information on setting up helicopters. the Calbre 3 is an old model and not very common these days so you may struggle to find valid help online. RC groups may be worth a look too.

the basic mechanics of setting up a helicopter apply across the whole set of models but you will need to know the swashplate settings etc for the type of swash you have on your helicopter. I have a kyosho nexus in my shed and I suspect that the calibre is a similar setup to that with each servo doing a specific function rather than using mixing like the modern helicopters do these days.

the swash setting in your radio will probably be H-1 or H-4 depending on the swash type and how many servos are on it.
there is a lot to do on this heli before you should fly it so take your time, read the info on the websites and get some training undercarriage on there. remember these toys can kill you and if you don't know what you are doing then finding a club is invaluable.

general things and the order to look them up for me would be.

    setting up the swash plate,
    setting up the tail
    setting up the gyro
setting the gear mesh on the motor
    set up the throttle travel
    test it.

get someone else to look at it for you who knows nitro helicopters.
get someone else to trim it out for you.
learn now to fly it at the local club.

when I learnt how to fly (1991) there was no one in my club who flew helicopters so I was on my own, you don't need to do it that way.

I hope I haven't put you off, this is a great hobby and it is probably the most rewarding one I have but a beginner really does need help especially when learning on a bigger machine.
you have some good kit there so good luck and if you have any more questions feel free to fire away..

    /Steve

Set-up is where the real challenge lies. It is a big subject but easily mastered if you have something to guide you I was in the dark for years until I bought Rays' Authoritative Manual and if you can get a copy it'll be a bit of a bible for you.

How old is the heli? Some of the modern CCPM set ups are miles away from the more mechanical set ups on older machines.

Have you been using trainers sticks - IMHO they are essential for absolute beginners.

Bear in mind that crashing is as much to do with being able to control the bird even when nicely set up to go.
Helicopter pilots get it up quicker.

When the blue light is flashing I am kidding.

Why simplify when it is so much simpler to complicate.
