  • Hirobo Shuttle...

Has this one got a problem? The tail seems to be shaking, or is it me seeing things? It's a video of one for sale on ebay and I'm very interested in it but if it's got a problem, I'll steer clear. New gyro per chance?

oh, ps, pls reply asap, I've got a day left

    Thanks guys.

    I am only a beginner

so please wait for another reply to confirm

but i would say it was just an incorrectly adjusted Gyro either the gain is set to high and needs retarding or it could be an imbalance somewhere.

either way i think it will be very easy to put right.

But as i said i am a beginner so please wait for someone with more experience to confirm this

    Good luck bidding

I am also thinking of buying a shuttle.

    Cheers

      Hi Bibs

I haven't flown a Shuttle for a few years now but I've taken the plunge and bought a Shuttle Plus. (Once this hobby gets you, it never lets go!!!)

Looking at the film its difficult to give a 100% certain answer. What type of gyro is it? It certainly seems as though the gyro is 'hunting' meaning the gain is not quite right.

The rest of the model looks okay and looks reasonably stable apart from the tail wag.

Again, its difficult to give a diagnosis from just seeing the film and I would always differ to someone with more experience than me.

Any chance of getting an experienced pilot to try it out for you? (On Ebay probably not)

Still, the seller must be confident if they include a video of it flying even if the landing looked a bit 'accidental'.

      Cheers

It looks as if the gyro gain is a little high, but the other thing to check is the gyro mounting. It could be an idea to take the gyro off and fit new foam. Also check that the leads are not tied down too tightly as the gyro will pick up vibration through these as well.

        Hope this helps.

          Thanks guys

          Here's the auction

          http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...e=STRK:MEWA:IT

It comes with a JR Propo Max 66 tx, however I'm getting a ff9 so this will probably be surplus. I was thinking of spending up to 400 on this bundle, is that good value?

Personally the only bit I wouldn't be keen on is the Tx, so i'd say a 100.00 less as you'd be better off with a FF8 second hand.

Heli looks fine. Its all about how much do you really want to spend.

I avoided that one in the end after a Shuttle Z-TS with everything included came up for a bargain price. I phoned the guy last evening to make an offer, he accepted and drove 70 miles to pick it up.

It came with flight box with fuel pump/glow plug starter plus a spare one, hex starter, fuel in a squeezy bottle, small but no doubt useful set of allen keys. Also there is the training gear, FF6, charger for that and reciever, loads of spare linkages, spare blades, err and some other stuff, oh, and the box, instructions for everything, and a heli for beginners book too.

I'll get the details of the heli later, but it's a Shuttle Z-TS, Futaba servo's and reciever, HiTec gyro, Irvine .36 engine and stock Hirobo muffler.

              250, can't go wrong

                Hahaha, can go wrong!

The guy did demo the heli in his garage, run the engine for me and gave it a bit of gas to show it was in working order, much to my surprise when I had it inspected and discovered the blade bolt's weren't blade bolts and are bent at the top of the too long thread, about 15 degrees too so were ready to snap 8O

I will be speaking to him about this as a .30 rotor in the gut from 2m away is not a pleasant thought and I'm not happy he exposed me to this danger.

The pitch gyro was also connected in reverse so no wonder he had had no luck trying to fly it and wanted to sell it. None of the gyro's had rubbers of those little brass things either, but that's sorted now. All in all, it only needs a bit of tlc and perhaps 30-50 in parts and it will be in tip top order.

Lesson learnt, more to be learnt, enjoying my new hobby still immensly.

                  Hi Bibs
Check that heli out thoroughly - your story suggests you bought from a cowboy - also to help with the learning process there are plenty of books about which will help you with the terminology.
Gyro ---- is the box of tricks that goes between the tail servo and the receiver - it senses changes in yaw and applies the the tail correction for you thus helping with the workload in that area.
Servos --- are the work horses of radio modelling they take instructiuons from your receiver and move the pushrods and as a result control the helicopter.
Mount the gyro on sponge pads to cushion it from the vibrations.
Last as you sort of said the servos are fixed with screws or bolts to the side frames via rubber grommets and brass eyelets again so as to cushion from the vibration
                  Good Luck.
                  Dave

Gotcha Dave, that was a typo and I need to get the hand of the terminology.

The GYRO was loose, just bouncing about as the sticky pads were no longer sticky and the SERVO's were just screwed in directly, now they are rubbered and grommeted and the pitch SERVO was reversed! Err, I think that's right now !!!

I've got a friend who really knows his stuff helping me out, he's a legend and expert in this field and I've learnt stacks from him last night alone!

Congratulatuions its a shuttle!! I am so jelous!!!

I am also trying to buy a new heli but am a bit finacialy challenged at the moment as we need to buy a car and the missus is far to sensable to let me by a heli when we need funiture for our new house.

I do hava plan though as we have decided to get a loan to buy the car and it will probably be in my name i will just add a couple thousand Ringits (currency in my part of the world) and she will never know!!!

what do ya think my chnaces are boys?

I am planning to buy a second hand FF9 and a T Rex 450 combo kit as my firts setup. with a rappy 50 soon to follow.

Things are so cheap here its unreal especialy if you import direct from Tiawan!

Any way good luck with the shuttle and keep us all posted its good to hear how other beginners are getting on.

                        Cheers
