  • Another noob!!

So after reading through many Heli forums I decided to register here, mainly as it seems much friendlier and is UK based

Anyway I have a dilemma, which you guys have probably heard 1000's of times before, basically what heli to get??

Do I go the way of coaxial or cp?
I understand that cx's are easier to fly, but IF i decide to go on to bigger and better things would learning on a cx heli be a bit like learning to drive an automatic car and then needing to learn how to drive a manual?

If I get cx then the choice seems to be between the Blade CX2 or Lama V4, the Lama is much cheaper and there's some cracking deals on flEaBay

Or should I go straight to a cp with something like a Blade cp or HoneyBee?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!!

I started last Feburary and after making the mistake of buying a cp heli as you mentioned I went on to join a club. I bought a nitro heli and have never looked back.

The Blade CX is great fun, still a challenge to fly and will help you more than you think particualrly with the basics of orientation and allowing you to get your "heli fix" when you can't fly outside.

However, the Blade 400 looks like the current best "cheap" option if you really must go for a cheaper CP electric heli.
Andy at Real Raptors will really look after you too.

In addition the ESSENTIAL purchase is Phoenix flight sim which you can use with the controller you get with the Blade 400. I really cannot emphasise how important the sim will be to you.

Ideally you should pop down to a local club that has helis there and have a chat with the guys there. The best options is to get a buddied flight and see how you get on.

    Good Luck

Heya and welcome to what is gonna be an endless mind frigg for ya bank manager lol ....I started on a full CP elec heli .... i been flying planks for about 8 months so that helped a little bit and also played on FMS with some of the heli models .... Someone i know set the heli up for me while i watched then he test flew it and trimmed it ... RTF my butt lol ....But after 2 flights cud hover with training gear on ....Lad who set it up also taught me how to hover ... Had the elec 2 weeks and went and bought a .30 size nitro and aint looked back ... After about 3 months can do forward flight and little circuits and as my confidence grows am going higher and higher with the heli's I own ... If ya doing it on ya own ... Blade CX is way to go then move up .... ya can always flog the CX on n e way ... Essential purchase has gotta be Phoenix sim as its made me come on leaps and bounds even when the weather has been rubbish I can still have a twiddle on the sticks for half an hour or so
