  • What are satellites and receivers?

I do not know which I have

I have a Spektrum AR8000 box and a small box with 2 tiny wires coming out of each side plugged into that. The AR8000 is plugged into my 3Gx box.

I also have a box marked TM1000 that is not fitted, I dont have a clue what these all are really

The AR8000 is the receiver, the 'small box with 2 tiny wires' is the satellite, and a TM1000 is a telemetry unit for use with a DX8 or 7s.

I don't think there should be anything in the 3GX sat ports if you are using an external receiver.

A receiver in radio control basically means the box that takes the signal from the transmitter, decodes it, and then tells the servos what to do. (or in the case of flybarless, what commands you are giving the FBL controller)

A satellite is like a mini-receiver. It contains electronics that are capable of doing some but not all of the decoding. They plug into either a receiver, or a flybarless unit, and the more you have the more redundancy you have. (this means that if one fails, or is blocked from 'seeing' the signal, another one will still be working).

The TM1000 is a telemetry transmitter, that allows you to read off your transmitter's screen information about the condition of the heli. Depending on what sensors you have mounted, this could be headspeed, engine or motor temp, battery voltage.

I'll leave my Ant 1 and Ant 2 ports on the 3GX unit free.

These forums are so helpful thank you all.

Probably the best bet is to find someone or a club close to you who can guide you.

That way you will get hands on experience, to make sure everything is set up correctly.

Sure, but it wont be as good as someone actually taking you through it , with you.

Ask Curryzz how much help Don (milly0812) was today. Although we were able to give him advice through the forum, it wasnt anywhere near as good as being able to check over his heli with him, and picked up a couple of problems with the set up that would have been pretty catastrophic. There is nothing wrong with asking for help, I ask for plenty of it

When I think I have it set up I will get it checked and then help with the first flight it would be silly not to. Trying to sort out these problems is Is challenging and I am enjoying working through them.

With the AR8000, it powers up and binds but won't move the servos unless the satellite is connected to it. Try plugging the satellite into the AR8000 and see if it works then.

Alternatively, remove the AR8000 completely and just connect the satellite to the 3GX.
