Better yet, take the blades off, main and tail. Yes, tail as well, if that starts howling round it can pick up light objects from the bench and send them flying or it will push the tail round. Better doing both.

Helis are not fail safe. Very hairy things until you know what you are doing. If something is wrong and you are lucky you will break lots of things, if you are not so lucky anything could happen. There are a lot of things that you have to get right. Do take the main blades off before connecting anything and then make sure the heli is held down or take the tail blades off as well. You can check out the controller and servos by connecting a separate battery (4 AA Nimhs) to the controller. If the servos are not free to move they will get hot and burn out, or if you have the wrong settings on the controller.

I think that's the method they show in the manual as well, Chris. Good call I'd forgotten that opsie_face: hehehehe.

I think it's fair to say that helicopters of this size or bigger need to be treated with extreme respect. They can cause damage to objects, animals and humans.

If you are responsible and take the right precautions however you should be OK. Removing the blades and dis-engaging the motor from the main gear are practically must-do's. I ran across a friend at work a few weeks back who had built a Trex 450 from scratch and got it to the hovering stage. He knew nothing about helis, but he spent months building it and ensuring everything was right. He took a very careful approach and all was good.

Problems arise when people do not respect these machines!

If you don't feel comfortable about anything - do try to find local help. I'm sure somebody here will be local enough to help out - if nobody has responded yet, they may do later when home from work. The forum is always a little more active in the evenings.

If you take the right precautions however, you should be able to get your motor going. BUT, as already stated here - do take care from then on! Do, for example, find a local club. Don't do what I did with my first 450, and spool it up in the living room (I'm not proud of this - my only saving grace is that I didn't try to take off!).

It's an addictive hobby - and very rewarding! Enjoy!

The beeping has gone and the blades now turn when I switched on with throttle at max, I did get a very tunefull tune played then the blades started turning. I don't seem to be able to get into programming mode. Thinks are not right though as only the servo that is mounted singularly on the mode moved when I increase the collective pitch. Am I expecting the wrong thing to happen?

If I start of with my throttle set at low the regular beeping (as in Toms first video) happens and and the controls move (I do not know if they are moving correctly). If I start at throttle high the regular beeping noise happens, If I then move the throttle to low the regular beeping stops, a little tune is played. If I then advance the throttle the motor then turns. The servo on the side raises the rear of the swash plate
