  • To mod or not to mod?

    Hi all,

I have just got a honey bee v2, it is my first rc helicopter.

It was slightly damaged and I need to replace the paddle control frome and the roter head, I recieved upgraded meteal parts with the heli.
Will using these parts at the start make learning to fly the heli more difficult? Should I replace the broken parts with stock?

Also came with a direct drive tail mod, would it be best to fit this straight away or wait?

    Any help would be appreciated....

I have been learning with a HB v2, and I would stick with the stock plastic blade holder. When you hit the ground, or walls one of the balls on the rotor head will snap and the rotor head will pop off; but you should get away without bending the main shaft. The metal flybar paddle control frame is an upgrade that you can do without causing any more damage in a crash; but if you combine that with a metal blade holder, you will risk more damage when (not if) the HB hits something.
I've had some big crashes; but the repair costs less than £4 each time. Keep plenty of spare blade holders.
Definitely do the fuse mods on the main and tail motor wires from the 4 in 1. A fuse is cheap from Maplins - a 4 in 1 is £35 plus delivery.

    Have fun.

      Thanks for the advice,

I have fitted an upgraded swash plate and paddle control frame but left the roter head stock so it can pop off WHEN not IF i crash,
What I did do was use the metel plate of the bottem of the roter head/blade holder, I have seen people using all sorts on youtube but this seems to be ok and built for purpose.
The fuse mod will be going on tonight then hopefully get some flying done tomorrow.....
