  • Pilot error or gust of wind?

We are on a site in Perpignon at the moment with a big open field to fly in so I have made use of it trying to improve my hovering. Going reasonably well not chasing it around the sky too much,UNTIL, a gust of wind gives me a sideways shove towards the ground so quick correction and head up for the escape route to gain control. At that precise moment as I put on more power the wind decides it is a submarine and its dive, dive, dive. OUCH!!! My wife heard the bang 30 feet away in the RV.
New blade grips ,fly bar, tailtube ,main gear stripped, and blades.
i was enjoying the day so back to the hanger order parts on Internet and try again.
Is this really a fun hobby?
    Happy landings .
    Tom.

Been there and got the T-shirt, flying in the wind adds a whole load of new challenges but I find it helps me loads. If you can do it in the wind then it's a piece of cake on a calm day. Plus in the uk windy days are more common than not.

I would suggest learn to fly a little higher though to give yourself time to recover. Especially important when you start fwd flight as changing from up wind to down wind can result in dramatic changes in height. It does but a smile on your face though.

when u get over the enitial start of the learning curve its very rewarding as well as fun i was a quick learner. but i had to learn in the wind and believe me this teaches you everything u need to know. ive binned 4 helis so far 1st three mechanical failier and mose recent bad stick banging (ejected tailboom) but i should of had quite a few more with dumb thumbs, but was luckely able to recover. i did bin my plane that was dumb thumb lost orientation on a tip stall and put it full bore into the rape seed lol .

but crashes hapen theres alot to think about until it becomes natural its a tiring game but even if the best get too far away and loose orientation if its already heading south... any ways take it on the chin remember what parts u needed and collect em up so next time u can go home with tail between legs start on what parts u have and ....... enjoy fixing it and learning how to doit p.s i hate fixing/maintenance but most enjoy it or learn to love it

any ways im tired and im rambling soon you'll be flying like you stole it and when you do ya be like yeah man look at me
