  • hello. my 1st post. views on my kit please

    Greetings,
Just received a rc heli from estate of a sadly deceased.
Never been anywhere near radio control equipment before.
I have spent the last two weeks reading the two manuals that came with the helicopter and scouring the forums to get me upto speed in awareness and understanding of the hobby and lingo.
From what i can discern I have:

    Align 600 Nitro 3D Pro
Align 3G Flybarless conversion with Align 3G gyro
Walkera Devo 10 Tx comes with a 10 channel Rx
Electric regulator and switch for the Glow Starter.
    Corona digital servos
    Fuel Filter

What do members think of this , what is the good and the bad.
Also I have read the Align 3G manual for the FBL conversion, that describes the various setup from mechanical "DIR" through electrical setups, ending in holding the heli to test the Centre of Gravity. Is this the only setup I need to do?

Thanks for you help and HI !
Align 600 Nitro Pro 3D; Align FL760 3G FBL conversion; OS .50 Nitro; Turnigy Digital Servos (ELE,AIL); Spektrum Digital Servos (THROT,RUDDER); Align 2in1 Regulator and Electronic Glow Plug switched start; Walkera Devo 10 Tx and Rx kit; Fuel Filter; Heli Artist scale Airwolf with retractables.

sounds like a pretty good setup to me.
see if you can find a club that can help you set up and teach you to fly. a 600 is a big helicopter to learn on these days it isn't impossible but with the price of cheap electric helis many learn on 450 class birds as they are cheaper to crash.

Personally I learned on a 30 size nitro so I don't see any problems other than rebuild costs if you put it in and the obvious dangers of 1800 rpm + with carbon machetes swinging around.

the setup of the 3gx isn't too bad but if you are totally new doing it alone is a big order.

there are a lot of setup videos on youtube and helifreak.com in the "finless bob helifreak tech room" he has build videos of trex 600's. and is generally accepted as the newbie saviour. he has a load of videos covering everything to do with helis.

finding someone who can help is probably the best advice I can give. The Trex 600 is the mainstay of a lot of model clubs so it shouldn't be hard to find someone relatively close who can help and even maybe teach you to fly.

The Devo 10 is a less known radio, it is a nice looking bit of kit but I have no experience with it personally, I have the older walkera 2801 and a futaba radio.the menus of the 2801 are very similar to the spektrum ones so it should be possible to map things over. check out RC groups or helifreak as Walkera are starting to get some traction in America.

good luck and welcome to the addiction.

    /Steve

no problem. Keep this thread updated with your progress and I am sure others will jump in and help out too.

do you have a simulator? they are invaluable when learning your orientations and later on for practising moves that cost a lot of money when they go wrong.

there are several free ones (ok for orientations) several inexpensive ones(pretty good) and lots of more expensive (excellent)

for free simulator check out FMS, you will need a cheap usb dongle for it. or a usb tx from a model shop about £20
clearview is a good cheap one at about £30 you can use the dongle from the above setup.
then there is pheonix which is really good and about £70 I think you should be able to use that as is but may need an adaptor depending on what you got with the TX.

then there are realflight, aerofly, and probably others. I am happy with pheonix, but I have used FMS and Clearview. Pheonix is great because of the online side of it, you can actually fly with other people and get lessons/tips etc... if you are watching someone else fly you can see their stick movements if you have the tx monitor enabled, this can be invaluable as the stick movements are a lot less than people imagine.

getting a sim will save it's own cost many times over. a 600 size crash will cost at least £100 to fix (blades, boom, feather shaft etc..) so if it saves one crash then it has paid for itself.

ask away if you have any questions there are no stupid questions, just silly answers!

        /Steve

My Walkera 2801 has a convertor with it that goes from the socket on the back to a jack plug.
I bought a cheap usb cable on ebay and that worked fine with the cheap sims, I have never used that radio with pheonix so I don't know about that though.

I am sure you will either be able to use pheonix out of the box with the stock tx part or buy a cheap cable to be able to use it.

                Thanks Steve
What sort of cable do I need for these sims?
Would it be possible for you to post an image or a link please.
                Cheers

have a look in your transmitter box, I got a cable like that with my 2801.

The longer cable with the box halfway down it's length is the cable that comes with Pheonix and is effectively what you are paying for.
The simulator wont work without the converter box. The jack plug pinouts on the pheonix cable don't match the walkera socket hence the need to have the little adaptor cable.

Nice1. I didnt get that first when I searched (depends on keywords) but what I did note from reading search results was that the sim had not been fully tested on Walkera Devo 10 , hence me starting this topic.

take the tx to a hobby shop and ask them to try it for you.
I can't see them saying no as they will make a 70 quid sale on the back of it.

they may let you have it on a see if it works basis... but then they may have a sim in the shop so you can just plug in and see if it works.
as far as I understand the wk2801 works fine with pheonix, so there is no real reason for the devo not to.

I'll try mine here and post back.

                        /Steve

                        Edit:
sorry I seem to have lost the connector cable. so I can't try it. It definitely didn't work just plugging the dongle from pheonix straight in like on a spektrum tx.
