if you fancy a challenge look at the twister. closer to a proper helicopter but requires more skill and care. it was my first ever helicopter 3 years ago and i reckon it cost me about £20 in repairs to go from a complete novice to hovering on a full battery pack without crashes. by then you learn how to improvise with other materials for repairs that are free or cost pennies in bulk buy.
blade cx2 if you just want an easy fly though.

my gripe with the coaxial heli's is simply the twin main blade i think in the long run as a biginner you are going the long way around of learning when you can jump straight in the hot chair with a twister and be closer to the real heli's and just be more patient at the very beginning in those first steps into a hover, you soon catch it in a couple of hours.

im sure the blade cx is great at what it does though.

i started about 3.5 years ago with a century hummingbird v3 which is very similar to the twister v2. it taught me to fly but is not the easiest helicopter to fly. if i could do it again then id probably go for the blade cx2 - because its easy to to fly and very easy to repair/change parts but also because of the 2.4ghz transmitter that comes with the cx2.

i loved my little hummingbird v3 though when i got the hang of flying. this is how it ended up - in an airwolf fuselage - [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZLBp55ISiI[/ame]

hummingbird v3 and the twister v2 are very easy to work on and repair/change parts etc - just abit harder to fly.
        cheers

Hi all, I'm new to this helipilot malarkey too, i'm probably going to go for the Walkera 4#3 (in Buzz Fly guise) purely for convenience and I like a challenge (and it looks like a helicopter )

matt im going to count how many links i can find to that vid, i get suckered every time

joe. everybody has a different idea of where to start.
i started with a minipred before i found this forum and believe me that was a big mistake(helicopter wise).so i bought a trex hde cheapest model not perfect but i could land it occasionly. then i read posts about raptors being stable and the bigger the better. so off i went and ended up with a raptor 30v2.till then all id done was crash if the pred left the ground it was toast every time!. i blew around £200 repairing it.the trex was better but not the answer i looked for.
so imagine i lifted off with the raptor(after having it test flown by richieclarkie)and wow this is p!44 easy i thought. so i hovered up down left right all tail in then a little sideways 45degrees!! YEESSSS now here i was a rc helicopter pilot. two and a half gallons later off i went on my first circuit up turn left nice stall turn w.t.f its sliding sideways hell thats quick .but dont worry ive done it on the sim! then my brain says whooo this is going to be expensive and tells my thumbs i havent done enough to compensate. the lying ba$2ard...i had!!!! but now my precious rappy is just another minipred on its way home . since then ive bought a medivac and my confidence was back with a bang. then a 600n came. then a blade cx2 now one heli i thought i would never fly again a400 size electric!!
now the moral of this story........................ out of all the heli's i have the cx2 has flown and taught me the most! by miles!! ive been in this hobby a year now and i estimate im about £2500 in.and yet that little £115 heli is the best money i have spent it flys every day no matter what the weather( car rental companys look at me as if im mad when i ask if they mind me spending my break hovering a helicpoter in their garage), i chose it over the medivac simply because i can bind my dx7 to it.so missing a step works for some but not all. which is why we recomend what we think will help the most not the quickest route to a vario turbine!!

                    Hi mate,

I'm also on alfaowner but having just found this site and struck up a keen interest in heli's i think i'll be spending a bit more time on here.

The blade cx2 seems very popular and i was going to get one however i have just ordered the esky lama v4 complete with training aid, flight sim,usb cable and spare blades for £70.00.....will let you know what its like when it arrives.

                    Al

This flight sim thing how does that work then

Do you plug the RC into a lap top and fly virtually ?

Yep, I believe there are various connotations and there are some free Simulator Software packages available. You basically plug your TX into the PC and then control a 3D model of your bellypopper on-screen, hours and hours of training without breaking anything and depending on what simultor software you choose there are lots of 3D models to load in to the software so you can even learnt to fly what you might buy next and get a feel for how it might react to how you want to fly.

I think (hey I had bugger all else to do on boxing day between charges of the COMBAT FORCE SUPER HELICOPTER

Think I'll get some software first.

nice one ive never flown one of them or a coaxial so i should shut up really
im just a sucker for realism. ive not flown an rc plane yet but if i did it would have to be a proper one not those where you can only turn with rudder for example.

heres a link to the twister i got

or this one, which was released a month after i got mine so i should have done some research first and had an even better version for the same price.
